I'm sure there's a better way to to this: premiere

Or rather, a more efficient way:

I've got dozens of videos which are of a human and white board in front of white backdrop blown to pure white. Some of them were in a less ideal setup and have some clamps/etc.. around the edges that need garbage matting out, no problem...

After garbage matting, i put in a white matte behind it, great, looks the part.

But then i need to have both of those able to fade in, or in this case the client likes dip to black, together, without seeing the garbage matte during that fade. adding in that i now use the wonderful adjustment layers, i have 3 video tracks to dip to, without seeing the obvious behind the scenes.

my normal solution is to nest, which does the trick, and i'd just go to that if this were just a handful of videos, but we're talking several dozen. So in the interest of efficiency, and keeping the project bin tidy, does anyone know of an alternative means of achieving this?

cheers,

oh and the one trick around it which works fine but is not as ideal, is to fade in the white matte first, then fade the clip in.

If it is just a fade to black you want, how about putting a layer above the others and making a black clip at the transition point, automated to go from zero to 100% opacity. That would blacken everything smoothly.

For fading in from black, 100% to 0% opacity.

i demand that you sir, come to NY so i may deliver to you a big sloppy kiss. That was just the solution i was looking for.

thanks mate!

Well, i found what i suppose is the most correct/clean way of doing this:

im using adjustment layers for curves, and they apparently work in a way i wasn't expecting, if you fade in/out an adjustment layer, it doesn't fade in the adjustments, it fades in everything below it. which now that i think of it, makes sense, the fade is now an adjustment which is then applied to everything below.
