I'm Not There

I saw this new Todd Haynes film last weekend - the "biopic" of Bob Dylan. I thought it was incredible and bold, but just a little uneven (particularly the portions with Richard Gere). Cate Blanchett gives a fantastic performance as Dylan from the "Don't Look Back" era (if you haven't seen that documentary, rent it now!).

Has anyone else seen this movie? I'm not even sure if it is in wide release - just NYC and LA, I suspect. I have heard a wide range of reactions; my girlfriend's brother walked out after ten minutes, and one of my musician buddies said it was possibly the best film he has ever seen.

i saw it a few weeks ago and it just didn't do it for me. it felt really random and had no real through-story. i didn't walk out but it wouldn't have bothered me if i didn't get to see the whole thing. its beautiful though. ed lachman is awesome. but todd haynes has been hit or miss. i loved Far From Heaven (i'm a big Sirk fan) and i just got Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story and it is pretty ridiculous. Barbie Dolls play all the characters and in order to show Karen Carpenter's anorexia, they slowly carve away the Barbie Doll. i couldn't really get into Safe. and Poison is weird.
