I'm going to go ahead and call it for 2013: DON JON.

I know it's a little early to be calling movie of the year already, especially without having seen the film in question, but I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut, DON JON -- about a porn-addicted, free-wheeling, charismatic New Yorker -- is going to knock it out of the f--king park. Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL about Man of Steel, and will probably enjoy that more than I've enjoyed any movie since The Dark Knight, but I've got a feeling about this one. The fact that JGL is so underrated as an actor only makes me want to see this more (Looper being a good example, Hesher being a better one).

Don't know about movie of the year but I agree with everything you said. I also think he's an underrated actor. He did a good job in "Looper" but that oddball movie Hesher was crazy crazy. It was an excellent movie. Kinda hope they make somewhat of a sequel on that one where he torments a whole new family. lol

Thanks for that trailer ...I had no idea this was coming out. That scene in the car at the end had me crying.. We all do that at some point (jammin to something like "Good Vibrations" right up until it can potentially make you look stupid to the person(s) in the car next to you...and as soon as they pull away...you're right back to your inner nerd..lol). Oh the shame.

He's underrated as an actor? From what I understand he's very highly rated as an actor, as I've heard nothing but good things about him. The fact that he doesn't show up on the posters all that often has, I think, more to do with his desire to be picky about his scripts rather than his being underrated.

And yeah, this could be good.

I'm definitely excited about the film. JGL is a fiercely talented man and his directorial debut will likely be excellent, as is basically everything he touches these days. Not to mention, porn addiction is a very timely topic, and there is a lot of material to mine on the subject.

That being said, there are a lot of very strong films coming out this year. Just a few days ago I saw 'Mud', and it has set the bar extremely high. As talented as JGL is, I doubt he'll be able to compete with such great filmmakers as Jeff Nichols, Martin Scorcese, Joon-ho Bong, and others that have films coming out this year. But he doesn't need to compete. It's his first film as director, and involves ScarJo and him having sex. It's undeniably going to be a success.

Good point. I'm looking forward to MUD as much as anything this year. Nichols is an amazing director; his films seem to have a truly American feel to them.

Underrated might not be the best word. Maybe... criminally underappreciated? <grin>
