If I buy the rode NTG 1 do I have to buy anything else for it like a phantom power thing and if I do what do I need to buy??? Oh i'm sorry for calling it a Phantom Power thing.

The "phantom power thing" being a dvx or other camera right? I have a ntg-1 and only thing i need to get sound is xlr cable, and camera of course.
 
well, you're definitely going to want to consider shock mount and wind protection, -a pole, cables, etc. Wander through the first three yellow "sticky" posts for a rather amazing ride thru the world of audio for film and the depth of help and knowledge offered here . . and take heart that you've chosen a mike thats well thought of for the money.

LAFF, right now B&H Photo has a good deal on RODE NTG 1 kits, I just bought the mic, a shock-mount, a dead-muff, right-angle XLR cable and a RODE boompole for 370 usd, you might want to check it out
