I'm creating a website for my filmmaking with Wordpress. I'm making it very simple and I'm not hosting any videos since everything will be linked from Youtube or Vimeo. I want a cheap option for hosting. The options Wordpress offers are all over 50 dollars a year. I'm thinking there must be something cheaper, such as GoDaddy, and if I want to eventually make a more comprehensive website, I can change hosts.

Any thoughts on this? What is a good cheap host for Wordpress?

I use Wordpress and don't pay anything. All I pay for is my domain name from godaddy and have an auto forward set up. Type starspictures.org and you automatically get redirected to the wordpress.

I would transfer away from GoDaddy first chance you get. Much better options out there (I'm in the process of moving to Namecheap).

I also do something similar, but I use Blogspot. Really very similar, so go with whatever you feel most comfortable working in (Wordpress is more mallable, but if you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves and delve into some code, you can spank Blogspot into submission...plus it's hooked in to my Google account, which is nice).

The best options are HostGator or Bluehost. I'm a frequent web developer and these are the best I've experienced.

wordpress.com and wordpress.org are different (but the same platform)

wordpress.com provides a free service so you can be whatevermycompany.wordpress.com without paying a cent

wordpress.org allows you to download the wordpress software and host it yourself at a hosting company such as go daddy, hostgator etc. You can then download a free wordpress theme or buy a wordpress theme or write one yourself like I did for jdmax.com

there's a support forum at wordpress.org and at other places around the net like sitepoint
