okay guys, need your help to buy a bike. I need it to get to and from school, which is a 20 minute bike according to google maps. It'll mostly be street and side walk biking

I was planning on getting this one at first, the large size in black because I"m 6'3:

But than I saw performancebike.com has a sale. These are twi that I found that fit in my budget($180 max)

What do you guys think? I've never ridden a road bike like the Amazon bike, I've always had those mountain bikes you buy from target, kmart etc

I bought a folding bike because you have to think of two things: space and theft. With a folding bike you can fold it and wrap lock around both tires and frame of bike. I also stored my bike inside my apartment. I bought a large gel seat for comfort. Had both front and back suspension. Paid $150 on eBay (I think less actually). So things to consider.

Suspension = comfort, but at the cost of efficiency.

My last bike was a Cannondale hard-tail (stolen :( )... When I get a new bike (eventually) I'll probably try to find a recent model on Craigs, in good shape. Most likely I'll go with another hard-tail unless I find a full-suspension ride that's too good of a deal to pass up.

Of the bikes you listed... I'd go with the Schwinn or Fuji... and of those two I'd probably choose whichever one has the best series of Shimano shifter system and brakes... but before I'd do that... I'd look into a hard-tail mountain bike with hybrid tires (road type tread).

I'd go with the Fuji. Looks like decent quality parts, adjustable handlebar, and Fuji has a good reputation. But I second Charli's idea of looking on eBay/Craigs or the local classifieds. Also, depending on where you live and how much rain you get, you may want to look for fenders.

I checked if the Fuji was on amazon, and it is but it has zero reviews while the Denali road bike has hundreds of reviews and a 4 star rating...

I just checked the directions to get to the school, and it says I have to go through a couple of trails to get there. Can you ride a road bike with those thin tires they come with through trails or will it be tough because the tires are too thin to get any traction on dirt and rocky trails?

Any bike with thin (28mm) road tires will have a problem with gravel/dirt roads. I bought a used Bianchi Eros from a friend and while it is one mother of a nice road bike, it doesn't do dirt worth crap. When I bought mine, I asked my biking friend about the Denali as I was looking at it too. He said it was decent, had OK parts and seemed fine. And then he offered me his old bike that was just hanging on the wall in his shed and I bought that instead. I liked the Denali a lot, and it has good reviews, but with 700x28C tires it will probably not be any good on dirt unless the trails are hard packed.

The Fuji with 700 x 35c tires will do much better. So will the Schwinn (26"x1.95" tires). All those bikes are good bikes. You're not going to go terribly wrong with any of them. Buy the bike that makes you smile. (And that goes for motorcycles, cars, speed boats, airplanes, what have you...)

BINGO. Spot on with what I'd recommend. I'd also add to go to your local bike shop and sit on a few and get sized properly. Sizing is everything. And at 6'3", things can get a little more difficult to size properly (i.e. arm length, inseam etc)

Well as of right now my budget for the bike is half way spent in other things I had to do :/ I could save and get the bike in 2weeks or o could get the nifty fifty right now with the money left over.......decisions decisions
