Im about to build a dolly but I have 1 question first.

Most designs say to keep the width of the platform under 26' so it can fit through doors, but the tripod legs open up to be much more than that. In short, it feels less stable when they are only opened to about 26 inches to fit through a door. Am I missing something?
 
A tripods legs need not be totally wide open to function, do they ? Some people use a bungee cord to secure the tripod to the platform (if you are worried about tipping)
 
Yeah I know they don't need to be all the way open...it just seems unsturdy when not opened to the full length...then again I haven't tried fastening them down before. Thanks John. I'm of to Home Depot
