I have one sitting in front of me right now that I will be reviewing for print.

I really have no comments at the moment until I have put it through its paces.

It has SDI in/out but only HDMI in. My eval unit shipped with Sony battery plate and I find it a bit too plastic. I would be concerned about long-term durability. Has 4-in XLR power in for 12-20volt as well as pin adapter for DC 12V in (comes with AC power supply). Ships with articulating arm which is definitely stable enough to hold monitor.

Very lightweight, particularly considering the fact that it is a 9" monitor.

It is quite nice and I'll have some detailed comments when I've actually had enough hands-on time with it.

I recommend Panasonic or Marshall. I work at a film equipment house and trust me, Ikan monitors are complete and utter trash. I'm not going to explain any further because there are way too many problems to list. Please go buy one and find out for yourself. We have litterally had to throw away thousands of dollars in Ikan monitors that we purchased because they are such garbage.

We decided to give them another chance with their 5.6" LCD's which are the perfect size for DSLR cameras, but it was also garbage. Again, please buy one and find out for yourself. This company is right up there with Cavision in terms of production quality, maybe worse.

Just wanted to jump in and drop a link off for those still considering/wondering about the new ikan VX9.

Rodney over at '24' had a chance to try out the new monitor and had this to say about it (as well as the pretty cool 'cage' for the 5D body - looking forward to hearing more about that one myself): Ikan News Blog

Have not tried the new Ikans, but I had the older hd8000 and it did break after 1 1/2 years however their customer service was good, and they offered to upgrade me to the new one at cost ($350 for a $800 monitor). But I would agree for 1100 you might as well get a marshal or similar.

I have been saying the same thing for several years now, If they were a third of the price I would say their fine for light consumer use. I used two that broke after very little use.

**** Although, I have not tried this model*****, so I cant say). The ones I had bad luck with were the v8000, or something , If I remember the model correctly. They had component through, but no hdmi, so if thats the v8ooo, then thats the ones I had. They also had the Canon battery plate, which also broke.
