Ikan V-7000

I've heard from the Micro35 forum and EVS that they have had trouble with this monitor. I was going to buy the same one, until I heard this.

I'm looking at the Varizoom 7" WS monitor with the battery and case. It seems like a good deal. Throw in an isreali arm and its like $600.

I just recieved email from Ikan, and they said that they had never heard that there had been problems with v7000. They said that it is very reliable product.
So who to trust here??

4:3 on 16:9 LCD

4:3 on 16:9 LCD

Hi. I'm interested in getting an on camera monitor (probably to be used with some sort of arm attached to the tripod). I shoot in 4:3, not 16:9 so I am wondering whether the 7" 16:9 LCD monitors will play back in 4:3. If they will, how big will the image be? I noticed that the 5.6" 4:3 varizoom monitor only has a 4.45:3.33 image size. This isn't very large. If I got the 7" WS monitor and used it for 4:3 images (if possible), would that be larger than the 4.45:3.33 image on the Varizoom? Thanks. Henry

I haven't heard there is a problem with the v7000 per se - I think some people were expecting more than they got from a roughly $300 monitor.

Brian - I heard from Rush at EVS that they were getting reports of in-field failures from the V7000, which is why I've personally held off on getting it. Although I may go ahead and risk it as it's still the cheapest option. I saw the Nebtek Neb58 is finally shipping, but it's $700 with the battery option.

Hey Jason

I re-read the threads on our forum and it turns out there is some people saying the same thing as well. I check with Some of my contacts and see what input they have.

Pull those contact Brian...I wish I had contact...

Hmm I'm still on the fence over the v7000 (if it turns out to be okay) and the 7 WS Varizoom.

It´s funny that they haven´t heard of any problems at Ikan. At least that´s what they said to me...

Well, keep in mind, they want to sell the thing. They are not about to hand over a stack of complaints.

I would definitely check with RUSH. If he is reporting some glitches, I would say you have your answer.

I can't find any information on the thread size for the mount on this monitor. Does any know? I'm trying to find out so that I can buy the right NEBTEK NOGA ARM (http://www.nebtek.com/products.php?cat=8) to mount the monitor to. They have three different arms....1/4" to 1/4", 1/4" to 3/8", and 3/8" to 3/8".

I'm assuming I need to mount the monitor to the 1/4" side and then get the extra 3/8" accessory shoe to mount the arm and monitor to the to of my HVX coming soon. I need to be able to undersling the monitor to use with the Cinemek G35 set-up and also so that the monitor is in a comfortable viewing position (i.e I don't have to tilt my neck upwards to look at the monitor all day!)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Norm Li

Rush- is the VZ high enough res for critical focusing?

Depends. On a MS and CU, yes. WS, I have problems with all LCD's except the $1400 Marshall. But that's just me. I can tell you the VZ has the best quality for the price.

Wish the VZ 5.6 had flipping. I can live without the 16:9 to save some cash. Curse kitchen remodelling! (Even on the cheap it's money that could be spent on, you know, the important things.)

Rush- have you seen the new Nebtek 58 yet?
