Igus Rival?

Hey Everyone,

I know this has already been posted in a previous thread, but there hasn't been much discussion on it as of late and I am really curious to see if anyone has tried out this rail and carriage system as a camera slider:

Seems like it could be a really good option. I think it would be very smooth as it uses a ball bearing system as oppossed to the popular sythetic teflon, etc. linear systems. I was all set to buy the igus and build myself a zazaslider, but now I'm not so sure...Let me know what you guys think...

I have come to the conclusion that a better design would be a slider where the carriage rides inside the rail/track on wheel rollers similar to the cineslider or konova instead of on the the outside like the Igus . The Igus is made of soft aluminum and although very strong, is subject to getting "nicks" in the rail which could interfere with carriage travel smoothness.

I just built my own slider with linear bearing pillow blocks (can be purchased for 10 bucks each on ebay), and the bearings and rails are metal on metal... so there is noise associated with this type of contact.

I think a better design might be roller skate type bearings that have some sort of rubber or nylon coating and metal rails. I have read also the heavier cinevate slider is super smooth, but is loud due to this same reason.

@eye box: I got a quote for this set up and it was about $130, so it is even more reasonably priced than the IGUs and I think the bearings would make it super smooth...

@ e-steve: Could you post some pics of the slider that you made?
