If you like Zeiss Lenses.... you'll love this article.

There is also a great explanation of what 'Back-focus' is regarding being of the lens. Backfocus is not the camera sensor to lens mount distance... that is flange depth/ flange focus. :)

Fantastic article. If you can call it that - he put together a book. Now that would make a great coffee table book.

Slightly off subject but I saw this quote and loved it.

At night, the Super Speeds, first T1.4, then T1.3, were revolutionary for shoot- ing in low light, remembering always the operative word being “low” and not “no” — and that artful lighting was not rendered obsolete by these new lenses.

Loved the article. Pictures were outstanding - amazing how their 8mm lens has so little distortion.
I have always said, "Give me an Arriflex with Zeiss lenses over the Panavison/Panaflex line anyday." I find that Panavision lenses are warmer and softer. Actresses probably prefer Panavison. I can make my Zeiss lenses softer, if I want to.

Yes, I thought it was amazing to see how they also changed the perceived size of the room! The 8mm Zeiss makes the room look larger, while the Nikon makes the back wall appear much closer.

As far as Panavision, anyone can make a pretty good case for or against, but their anamorphics are ridiculous. That is no argument :)

Nice article. Not to nit pick but they've got their lenses mounted on cameras from 1k - 100k and somehow they never show the Red. Really shows you the love.

That was the best thing to see, I have never used or even seen the 8mm Zeiss, and wow now I want to rent this for a shoot coming up. I had always thought a lens that wide would surely just fish-eye like the Nikon shown. But amazingly the room really did look 10x the size without looking distorted. I found out later that this lens was used on a film I have seen, and I had NO idea that this lens would keep the edges so straight instead of bowing.

<3 Zeiss.

That 8mm is something else, it's lack of distortion (or version of it) looks so cinematic yet serves the purpose entirely. It really makes the Nikon look like a toy!
