If its not one thing its another...

Hey Rick,

Seems like you may be zeroing in on at least a cause for the problem. Besides the fix of using a "dip to black" transition (to hide the issue between the two clips) you may want to apply a "Broadcast Colors" effect and set the "Maximum Signal Amplitude" to 100 or a little less.

Best of luck on this, and the getting drunk idea might be just what you will need after this project.

Umm, yes. I like the getting drunk idea a lot. Granted, these "problems" can only be addressed sporadically because of school. But I have been looking at the same freaking footage for several MONTHS. My girlfriend keeps telling me to move on. But I can't. I know that once I get this figured out, once and for all, the rest of the edit should be a virtual breeze.

Umm, I probably shouldn't have said that...

Do you ever wonder if perhaps you are actually dead, and the hell that you have been sent to is a single video project that will never get finished?

RLM, as I understand it, you're having a problem with flickering in the slow motion feature of Premiere Pro? I'm sorry if I misunderstood, or completely missed something in the thread, but that seems to be the case.

I had this problem about two years ago, when I first got the software, and about a year later figured out the cause.

In the render options, there are four tabs: General, Video, Keyframe and Rendering, and Audio. Click 'Keyframe and Rendering'.

How do you have this set up? Is 'optimize stills' selected or not?

I get the bad slow motion problem whenever I render with 'Deinterlace Video Footage' checked, or 'No Fields: Progressive Scan' selected in the drop down menu.

I avoid this by simply rendering with 'lower field first' selected.

Let me know if this helps!

Hahahahaha! If this was for a client, I would have found another way. I would have found another creative option. But, since this is for my sister, I have more leeway with respect to time (which isnt always a good thing).

Anyway, in my mind, the only limitations I should be having with this project are creative ones. To me, there are no excuses for "fudging it", or settling on a look that I know I don't have to have. Which is why I am being so God awfully stubborn. But yes, I am beginning to feel like I am in hell, forced to repeat this hell over and over and over again. Kind of like that Greek mythological character, Sisyphus (sp?)....that Greek guy in Hades who had to repeatedly roll that big boulder to the top of a hill for eternity, only to have to roll it back to the bottom again.

I swear, I think I am going to invest in a pair of DEPENDS. Because if I try something that actually solves my problems, I will SHAT right myself right on the spot!!!

John Moore-
Thank you for your suggestion. I HAD some serious slow motion problems that I haven't entirely solved (when I render out as an AVI it strobes). I will definitely try your suggestion! Thank you.

Currently, my problem is a very distinct 'flickering' that occurs during the dissolve transition between two clips, each containing two seperate MAGIC BULLET FXs. The first being Grad Sky, the second being White Diffusuon 5.0. I've downloaded a patch from Magic Bullet's website. But, alas, it did not work yet. Again, I will crap myself the moment I get this entire chapter in the can. Thank GOD my sister is patient.

When I get this project completed, I am going to be a freaking Premiere Pro 1.5 WIZARD!

My understanding is still that you applied these two MBs to a nested sequence in which you made a cut in the middle of an existing transition so you could apply one each side.

Yes / No ?

Yes. But, I also applied the effects to the original cut (pre-nested) and still experienced the same flicker.

Did you try exporting just the two clips with the MBs applied to each (not forgetting the handles) then importing them back to the prenested timeline. ?

Good idea Shooter. Cumbersome, but that's what I had to do too before I realized there was a patch :)

It's weird that the patch isn't working in this case, but I'd be interested to see if that works.

That's a good idea. I'll give that a try.

I was trying to solve the problem without having to render anything and re-import. I didn't want to add passes. However, I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

I AM FINALLY FREAKING DONE WITH THIS CHAPTER (I THINK).

I say "I think" because after all the trouble I have been having, I have chapter completion low self-esteem. I think it is done. I have no strobing (except mildly on a clip, I can live with), I have no more flickering, and I am for all intents and purposes, DONE!

Now, I just have about 8 more chapters to complete. HA!

Thanks to you guys, I will be able to move forward with this chapter. I have also learned a tremendous amount of info. Also, I want to say thanks to all of you who helped me get through this chapter.

Rick
PS I would post a clip but KHMUSE has pointed out that my host site sucks. If any of you have another top of the line site, I will post a clip so you can see what you've been helping me with....
PPS I just found the link that steered me in the direction of the STICKYPOD hosting site. I will post my clip there. When I have finished uploading the clip, I will post the link here...

Khmuse, overnighttolondon...

Here is the video I have been working on/the one you have been helping me with.

I should tell you that it is slow. This is my absolute FIRST wedding video or anything of the kind. It is my first. I thought it would be nice to film my sister's wedding and all her FAMILY AND FRIENDS....and edit that together since this was part of her wedding she was not part of....I hope it does not dissapoint. I am here to learn. Give me your honest opinions...
