IEEE 1394 keeps on burning out...

I've had the IEEE 1394 port burn out on 3 of my camcorders (2 sonys and a panasonic). I am really fed up with this and I'm wondering if there's any alternatives to using IEEE 1394 on miniDV cams.

If not, is there any way I can prevent this from happening? I already turn off both my PC and camera before connecting... doesn't seem to prevent it from burning.

I thought just using 4pin ports on my PC would work, but it burned out the port on my camera as well...
 
So you are saying that the Ports burn out after you have them connected and once you turn on either/both attached devices?


Maybe the cable is shorted?
