I have a lage quicktime file I created in FCP4, 57 Gigs / about one hour of footage, and upon opening the file in iDVD4, the automatic conversion does not happen. The bar in the status tab does not begin at all. Why is this happening?

thanks

Re: iDVD4 not converting Quicktime

My guess is that either iDVD knows that the file is WAY too large to fit on a single DVD so it's not rendering it, or it IS rendering it but it'll take forever so you'll just have to be patient.

I have a 1 gig G4 and rendering a 10 minute DV file (somewhere around 2 gigs) can take upwards of 10 to 15 minutes to render. So I can't imagine what you did to create a 57 gig file or how long it would take to compress.

You also might want to check to make sure the Quicktime file is one that iDVD can understand. I'm not sure off the top of my head what the exact requirements are for a playable movie in iDVD, but you might check to make sure there isn't anything about your file that goes outside of the boundaries of what iDVD accepts.

Good luck getting it working,

Re: iDVD4 not converting Quicktime

Okay, well, after re-exporting some of my footage from FCP in a non-compressed state (ie, eliminating the DV compression) I managed to get a one minute file from 200 megs up to a gig and a half so I see how 57 gigs is easily possible now :)

Definitely see about compressing your footage somehow before bringing it into iDVD unless you don't need to use your computer for anything else for a week or so.
