idvd won't play .mov file?

Hey everyone,

This should be an easy one, but it's got me stumped. I exported a FCP project (FCP 6) as a quicktime .mov file. I want to do a simple export to DVD so I'm burning using idvd. Now I've got an older version, version 6, and my wife has version 7 themes on her mac pro laptop. The template I want to use is in version 7 so I figure I'll use her laptop to burn the dvd. I connect my HD to her machine with a FW800 cable and drag the file into the idvd template. But here's the kicker, it will play audio but no video. I know it's an issue with her machine because when I open up external drive on her laptop and play the .mov file with the preview option it only plays audio and no video. Now she doesn't have FCP on her machine but since it's a quicktime file, would that make a difference? Her machine does have QT on it, v. 7.6.6.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Jonathan

You can also try exporting your file again and importing the new one.

My problem is when I import a file to ADD MOVIE iDVD freezes, I need to force quit.
I believe its the file thats causing this but cant confirm yet. I am exporting it from FCP a 2nd time to see if I can import it to iDVD.

Thanks for the links Nathan, helpful info. I've got the opposite problem, got audio but no video. I suspect it's something to do with the codec. I might just load FCP onto my wife's laptop and see if that solves the problem.
