Hi
Pulling my hair out trying to burn a dvd of a completed short film. Rendered out using AME using H.264 codec.

Tried both the automatic 'magic dvd' option and manually creating a dvd. It seems to burn then gets to the end and I always get an error popup

Encoding video
There was an error during movie encoding.

Yes, NO errors (yellow triangles) in map view..

Could it have something to do with the specific codec settings used or...so far have wasted a dozen blank dvds...

Please help!

Is there a reason why you rendered the original footage to h.264?

You've have compressed it there, and then again when iMovie encodes it a second time.

My guess is that iDVD doesn't play well with h.264 encodes because it's a computational intensive codec that iDVD cannot reencode again.

Just export a self contained movie with the original editing codec and use that. Do not convert to h.264.

But if iDVD doesn't like .mp4's shouldn't it warn you in some way, at least BEFORE spending half an hour rendering your DVD, wasting both your time AND media?? Really, REALLY a bad experience.

Ended up going thru iMovie, and using the share iDVD function from there

I guess I'm looking at the solution, not whether the software should do this.

It's consumer software, and the workflow has always been taking the original footage out of iMovie or corresponding editing system, and dropping it in.

Transcoding to h.264 has never been in the mix.
