IDVD plays back as 4.3 on pc and mac HELP!

I've been creating a DVD using three films that I have made and have frankly had no end of problems. IDVD has proved better for me than dvd studio pro which I am a total novice at. Best efforts proved to be a waste of time with that one so this is a question about IDVD

I can get it looking great and playing 16.9 on a widescreen tv, BUT I can't get it to show the same films on pc or mac dvd players in teh corrects aspect..

I thought I'd found a solution by outputting as avi's from FCP (this did play correctly on all devices) but this has only really proved to degrade the quality despite being set on best) Other than this I was using dvcpro codecs which look great but will not play as 16.9 on pc's or macs.

PLEASE HELP - TAKE THE TIME TO REPLY, I've wasted now about a week trying to solve this. Seriously I just need a good codec suggestion that will play as 16.9 on macs and pc's - That WILL solve my problems. I've lost the will to live.

Thanks Ryan, I missed your response sorry about the delay. Actually I'd already read that it still didnt work on idvd. The only files I could get to work as wide on all devices were avi files. Sadly I wasn't happy with the end quality I was receioving from them and have now at a tremendous amount of extra work made up a dvdsp project. ( programme I know little of but I had some help) I simply now cant get a quality from either dvd authoring programme that I am happy with.

I am getting a kind of "fizzing" in picture but this is a different discussion topic, so I may start another thread. I'm more than a little disappointed the dvd authoring results which I have at hand. Poor quality picture slideshows with rough edged pixelisation and fizzing pics. If anyone can help suggest why, please do!

avi is not a part of any dvd standard that i know of... are you saying that you export the video as avi, then re-encode it as mpeg2 for the dvd? hi-def or sd?

if the picture quality is bad, it's an encoding problem, not a dvd authoring problem.

I'm not saying output as AVI as it throws up new issues as you say with picture quality in the ensuing encode - I gave up on that tack, I'm saying they will at least on IDVD play in the right shape on all devices, thats all, but I left it at that. Thats an IDVD comment. IDVD only. IDVD - 16.9 and not relevent to my current issues

It's this encoding of any other type of output setting in DVDSP thats causing the fizzing I believe, nothing to do with AVI's. The only reason I mentioned AVI's was as an aside. I've started another thread regarding the fizzing and pixelation issue however. Please carry on discussion on that thread, it's near this thread. Thanks
