Idiot with Interlace Issues

And I'm that idiot.

Having some problems with what appears to be interlacing. Footage shot with a DVXa in squeeze, 24pA, editing in CS3 (started in 1.5, then dumped the footage to a friend's machine with CS3 -- the image looks identical from both). Correct settings were selected when starting the project (panasonic 24p widescreen, etc.).

Now, being an idiot, I'm sure that I'm overlooking something obvious. Not all of the footage looks like this, only certain scenes. I've read that 24p is already deinterlaced...but this looks like crap, and moves like it, too -- the motion is kind of jerky. This scene that it comes from is the worst.

Any ideas? I know, it's not really a cupholder. Any others?

That's South Philly-raised vernacular for "thinking that perhaps the issue was a conflict between 24pA and version 1.5, or maybe even just my computer, I used another computer loaded with CS3 and imported the footage directly from the original tape."

I should have just written that originally. My bad.

Also I should note that this is a moving shot -- dolly moving backwards as the actors approch the camera. The interlacing seems to act up more on the moving shots that have a lot of detail in the background.

Well, if you captured it fresh, you shouldn't be seeing any interlace issues like that.

If you look at the properties of the footage, does Premiere recognize it as 24p?

Or perhaps I really am an idiot, but I'm not sure yet what I screwed up.
Here are the settings from the properties box:

Type: AVI Movie
File Size: 13.2 GB
Image Size: 720 x 480
Pixel Depth: 720
Frame Rate: 29.97 (24p)

Some odd things here -- it says 24p, and when I check the timecode in the timeline there are 24 frames each second, and yet in the settings it shows the frame rate is 29.97.
Also, when I selected to deinterlace the clip, the interlacing seen above stopped.

Did I accidentally switch this from 24pA to another setting at some point during this shoot? I had scene file 6 selected, and the details and curves etc. all set to where I liked...but I have a creeping (sinking?) feeling that the scene file got switched...I don't recall a moment at any point that day where I said, "Hey, I'm going for a new level of stupid." I wasn't even drinking.

But is that the only explanation? I can accept if I screwed up...as long as I can figure out what I screwed up and how not to do it again.

Well, it's recognizing it as 24p footage. You're dropping it into a 24p Sequence? In CS3?

In CS4, this would make sense (for now).

Yep -- 24p sequence. CS3. Any ideas what be causing it? Again, I just want to find out what, if anything, I did incorrectly in order to avoid doing it again.
