Ideas to keep quick release plate guide pin down/not touching camera?

I have a Vanguard tripod and the guide pin on the quick release plate rests at a bad spot/edge of camera.

I would like to keep the pin always pushed down. (If pressed down, it springs back up.)

Tape is not workable. Any ideas?

There should be a way to remove it altogether from beneath.
Look of the bottom for a way to unscrew its mount. Toss it in a safe LABELED place and be done with the little bugger.

If not...

Thanks...on the bottom it's encased in plastic/no way to get at it...that plastic casing is connected to, and moves with, the tripod thread/screw handle.

Last resort. :D

Why does it need to stay down? Is is interfering with something? Does you camera not have a locating pin hole?

There's no hole, the pin rests right on the bottom edge of the camera at an angle - it seems over time/moving the tripod around would eventually cause damage.

Whatever the case may be, I'm not comfortable with it.

A piece of tape is not strong anough and wrapping tape around the plate would cause it to not be able to fit/snap in anymore.

I also tried pliers to lift out the pin pulling/unscrewing - doesn't work.

I might just wedge a little piece of cardboard there every time I mount the camera to plate, but would lke to consider other options.

Maybe get a different quick release? They normally aren't too expensive.

Or maybe grab the pin with pliers and rip it out of the plate from the top? Rotary cutting tool and grind it down to below the surface of the plate?

Thanks for the idea.. I looked it up/apparently I could get a drill bit with a rotary tool for my power drill.

You might also be able to drill a hole in the bottom right where the pin is located, and push it out. I personally wouldn't let any plate on the bottom slow me down in ripping the offending issue out of the way.

But, how much is that QR worth? Just seems that steppig up to a Benro or Manfrotto wouldn't be too much.

Quick search shows this thing which is Manfrotto 501 compatible and not too much money:

That said, some of these assemblies are indeed not as cheap as I thought.

Funny that this one is so much, I have it as part of a complete tripod and fluid head that I bought for $250 shipped... Doesn't make sense to just buy the QR now does it:

Easiest solution is to put some tape on your camera base, so the tape gets worn and not the body!

Or mount the plate backwards, so the pin clears the body & lens completely - there appears to be enough adjustment in the bolt slot.
