iBook G4 Problems

My Ibook G4 is not working. The desktop shows up but no icons on the screen. You can see the icons at the bottom where iMovie, Safari, Finder, etc. all is but you can not open them.

Anything I can do to get my iBook back working anyone would know of?
Any command prompts?
 
tried it. Nothing happened. Anything else I can try before taking it somwhere to pay money to get fixed?
 
Re-installing the system software. You can do this without erasing everything on your hard drive.

That's exactly what I want to do, but when I bought the computer it did not come with the system softwares for some odd reason. So i'm kind of screwed.
 
sry for the double-post..

the computer I have been talking about is my sister's.. but now last night I have the same computer as hers and mine just went down for some odd typical reason..

talked to a computer friend and i got it set up.. Let me know from yall if this sounds good.

I told him that I just pre-ordered Leopard (yay for Leopard :thumbsup:)
He told me to install leopard on my sister's computer which she has jaguar at the moment so that will be upgraded and hopefully back running.

When hers is back up and going I am going to get the firewire cable that you can connect from one computer to another. I'm going to do that and back all the files I need to back up to her computer then to my external Hard Drive.

Then take my computer to an apple store or any near by computer store (which we have some in this town thank goodness and they are good with apples)

When they get mine fixed. Install Leopard to my computer and get all the files back on and hopefully I should be set

Good idea?
