i just upgraded from the core2 e6850 to the i7 920... so far the preview isnt what I expected.... still chopping for full best quality preview :( I notice in preferences it allows up to 4 cpus be used for vegas... however if i type 8 and exit the preference and enter it again it stays at 8....

1. can vegas 8.0c use all 8?
2. how can i use more than 1024mb for ram preview?

This is just speculation on what I have observed with my use of Vegas over that past few years on many different systems, but I think they are lagging WAY behind in being able to take advantage of recent computing power.

Depending on what you are rendering to, it will use all 4 cores (or 8 depending on how many you have)but other codecs only use one. Preview sucks as soon as you start putting any number of effects on and are anything past "preview" quality.

It's a great program and the UI makes it very fast to use, but I do believe they need to re-tool the base programing to take advantages with the new generation of 4/8 core processors.

vegas is limited to 4 threads and 1024mb ram for preview. sucks, but keep in mind FCP lags a bit with effects aswell until you pre-render. vegas also has a pre-render feature, and when used correctly, is more flexible then final cuts, but not easier. anyway, I got a beastly machine and get away with decent preview when setting it to "preview half". i actually perfer that over "best" when editing cause it de-interlaces. Im hoping version 9 will take better advantage of multi-core hardware and possibly GPU based video encoding.
