I wish there was a website where videocams were tested and short clips/pics shown!

I wish someone would take a series of videocams, mostly 3CCD videocams and shoot brief clips with them and then upload the clips at a high compression to see what they can do. And also include screenshot/pics and archive all this footage for comparison.

Currently I am searching youtube for keywords like "GL1" "DVX" "XL1" "VX2000" to get video footage to compare camcorders and it's all compressed/uploaded poorly.

I know you can upload them better with certain software, I have seen crisp youtube videos but it's rare that people use the software.

So I was wondering if anyone knows of a better site I can search for keywords like "GL1" "DVX" "XL1" etc., to get good sample footage? Does a site exist?

And if not, someone should create one!

I know what you're saying. Everyone went through this at one time or another.

But, seriously . . . between those cameras, if narrative, cinematic film is what you want to do, you will not be happy with anything but the DVX. You want 24p. And you don't want to "fake" it. There are about 25,000 members here on this site who would be unanimous on that.

If you're looking to spend $2000 or less, there are only two cameras which need to concern you -- a used DVX, or the Canon HV20, and the HV20 is an unknown commodity at the moment.

That right there screws up your comparison, can't really compare footage if they're highly compressed. Even screenshots will get screw up for web compression.

That brave soul should be prepared for A LOT of hate mail and flame wars on their site from people who desperately want to champion "their" camera or "their" company. Just check out the HVX vs. A1 thread in the article section for a sampler; and this is the nice community.

Truth is, there's simply no way to objectively compared two cameras without someone calling foul. It comes down to user reference and that's just different for everybody.
