I will be homeless soon

I know this isnt very upbeat lol but my life has turned to toxic waste and I've lost everything.

My job, my house, my visa.

Back to UK it is on a one way ticket with no money left. All my savings went on providing for myself and my soon to be 3 year old son here (who will stay with his mother my ex here in NZ) while I was out of work thanks to its demise from the earthquakes here. My visa was attached to the job.

Not only that my DVX I bought from ebay was a dud and died after 30 hours usage.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.....sweet sweet reality.

I'm 26 and feel like theres just nothing out there job/career wise.

I guess I will go on the dole when I get back and check into a shelter or something until i get back on my feet.

But i wont let it get me down I guess, even tho its hard.

I still want to be a film maker and nothing will stop me.

Just a huge set back thats all. I did everything i could before to make the situation manageable but to no effect.

Just wondering how low any of you guys have ever got in your life and how you dealt with it and came back to the surface.

Sorry, dont mean to sound like a bummer, just would be cool to talk someone I guess.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, your indomitable spirit is shining through. That's a good sign.

Bleeding Christ, that sucks.

I really feel for you. I was very very low down once.
The secret is never give up and get up one more time than you stumbled down.

Does anyone have a DVX left, gathering dust on a shelf?

We could maybe raise some money here on the board, buy the camera and send it to him, so he could get at least some wedding jobs or local commercials.

I´m willing to donate $20.

Who else is in?

Frank

I'm in too, cause I'm also so depressed and donno where to start, and I'm in UK! So even it's my last £20, I'm in...

Wow thanks guys, really appreciate it, but I could never accept money off you guys.

Since I haven't been back to UK in about 5 years, my account is prob inactive, and my bank card expired in 2008 lol.

I just have to laugh at it at the end of the day, its the best remedy. (Laughter.)

Nah, I wanted to raise some money to buy you a used DVX that gathers dust on a users shelf (don´t know if there is any - but hey, it´s DVXuser after all) - just to give you a chance for a new start after your DVX disaster. Weddings and small business commercials may not be your filmmaking dream, but may pay the rent.

Well thanks man, thats really nice of you. I just feel a bit embarrassed as I've always worked for what I've got and not used to anyone getting me stuff. Would be nice tho.

I think it's good to keep in mind that lots of people who we have in our minds as having been greatly successful have almost always had a point in their life where everything seem to have been flushed down the toilet for them.

So, hey, you're in good company, methinks!

Yeh thats true and also I see any experience as something I can later put into my films. Who knows I might meet a future film making partner at a shelter lol.

Good call Frank. Im in.

So who's got a DVX sitting on a shelf and how much you want for it? We need to know a price to work toward.

One of my friends who's on here - "Brett" - has a DVX he is trying to sell. Sad thing is, I think it has a cracked LCD. Regardless, I think he would pry sell it for a pretty reasonable price....

Little story for you.....
I played for several years in bands in Seattle and worked a day job simultaneously. Well just as my latest band was really getting some traction, I hit the proverbial wall. Long story short the band broke up, I lost my job and I was living day to day and was technically homeless for a period of 2 months. I say technically because my best friend helped me out and I eventually wound up back in my hometown in Montana....with no guitar, no recording gear - nothing.
I worked temp jobs for a bit and then found study work. In a couple of years, maybe less, I had a new guitar, recording gear, a car, etc. I had support from my Mother and Stepfather (not financial...but in many other ways) Just as I was getting back on my feet, my Mother was diagnosed with Cancer.
9 years later after many ups and downs, she passed away. Novemeber 11, 2010.....the months just before and since that day were far worse than anything else. I know it's a clichet...but you're still young and driven, so in the grand scheme of things just count those as assets. Find a job in a warehouse or stocking freight somewhere - they usually pay pretty well and at the end of the day your mind is not drained (unlike many other jobs). You can actually think about other things while you're working - like ideas for films, etc. You're just at a crossroads on the way to better things - that's the best way to look at it.
Good luck to you!

..many posts were made while I was typing....if there does end up being a place to donate funds - count me in for $20.

Very sorry to hear about your mother man, thats really sad. What is Montana like? My family lives there, Fred and Tressie Fike are my grandparents, but never met my American family, not even my father. I grew up and was raised in England by my English mother. Even tho I got in contact with them when I was like 15, my birth father was still on drugs and prob still is, and he wasnt exactly coherent most of the time or happy to hear from me. Maybe he thought it was the actual telephone talking to him lol. My grandparents are extremely religious, and wrote a nasty letter to me saying how they didnt approve of my heavy metal band,my long hair and my then eyebrow piercing lol. Suffice to say I wrote a really foul mouthed letter back which I regret. Never heard from them again tho sadly, even tho i tried many times.....

And thanks guys, everyone whos chipping in. :)

Nowhere to go but up, friend.

Just remember that no matter what life deals you, it is how YOU deal with IT that matters in the end.

I wish you all the best.

If I still had my dvx I'd send it to you on my own dime.

Back in '92 we sold/lost our six-figure business all at once plus everything we owned. After struggling and starving for a few years we landed a hotel job, which led to another hotel job which finally landed us in Santa Cruz. I went from having only .35 cents in our pockets to securing a job that had me work full time with these hours: 9am-11am. You read that right. I had a full-time job that I worked only 2 hours a day for about 4 years (first two years were hard).

So things can turn around. You hungry, go to a grocery store and eat all their samples. Buy bread and peanutbutter it goes a long way. Do what you can and secure a paying job that you can do. Don't worry about film, it's will always be there. Concentrate on the here and now.
