I Want to Upgrade from a Manfrotto 503HDV Head: Suggestions?

I want a smoother panning head than my current Manfrotto 503HDV, but am not sure how much I have to spend to see a real difference.

For now I am going to keep the Manfrotto sticks with 100mm bowl, but would love to replace the 503 with something better.

Suggestions ?
 
It really depends on how much weight you're using? What are you recording with?
