I used DV film and then Vegas 5 to convert

Re: I used DV film and then Vegas 5 to convert

I havn't messed around with DV film, but I find the 60i to 24p conversion in vegas is very good as well. I'd just stick with that if it looks better.

Re: I used DV film and then Vegas 5 to convert

In my past experiences with converting footage using DVFilm Maker, it seems that DVFilm has a tendency to wash out the color, while Vegas stays closer to the actual colors in the 60i footage. This of course can be fixed by color correcting the footage after running it through DVFilm, but that's an extra step that sometimes I don't have time for, nor care to do! :D

So, right off the bat, yes Vegas' rendition does _LOOK_ "better".

Curious. How does one convert 60i to 24p in Vegas?
Also, this is a dumb question, how does the converted footage compare to actual 24p from the dvx?

Re: I used DV film and then Vegas 5 to convert

There’s a rundown of how to do it in the Whitepaper.

Celluloid will also do it for you at a mouse click.

It does not have the resolution of true DVX 24p, though it certainly has a similar feel. I don’t think you’d ever mistake the one for the other, but if 60i is all you’ve got, the results are pretty darn good.
