I thought Inktip was free - screw that

Did Inktip used to be free? For some reason I thought it was. Was going to post a couple of scripts up but then I realized it was 60 bucks a listing! Screw that!

Isn't the first thing you learn in this business that you don't pay anybody to look at your scripts or get your scripts into other people's hands? I'm not about to ignore that rule just b/c it's the internet.

I would gladly ignore that rule IF it resulted in successful sales. But I'd have to put ONE script up and see how it went first. And before I did that, I'd want to hear from some other users about their experiences with InkTip.

Last time I checked, Inktip was free for shorts and there was a fee for features.

Never tried this service but if I ever pay for exposure, I’d rather use my money for the Nicholl Fellowship’s entry fee. That contest has a really solid reputation.

It was never free to post features, but is free to post shorts scripts.

Inktip has a lot of postive stories, but they are low end dealings (DTV/D2DVD markets and indies).

I've gotten several work-for-hire leads from Inktip. Nothing ended up going anywhere, but I got to talk with some well-known and influential producers.

It's NEVER been free for features, only shorts. Inktip was a vital kick-start when I first got in the business. I sold quite a few shorts through them which led to other assignments and a couple Manager meetings. I also made some great connections through Inktip. Don't knock it, it works for some, not for others. You won't sell a high-concept multi-million dollar project on Inktip, but if you have character driven scripts that can be produced on a low-mid budget, it may be right for you.

They had money for a certain type of film (I had won awards for a screenplay of the same type, which is why they talked to me). We brainstormed ideas, but weren't on the same page. I favoured densely plotted, quirky stories that stretched the genre, and they wanted something simple that could be shot easily with the people they already have.

I've been through this twice now, and I enjoy the experience because you get to bounce ideas off people who know the market, and I've come away with some great ideas (which are purely mine). I now have one script from this in development hell (but hopefully going forward next summer), another I'm shooting myself this winter, and two ready to be written as soon as I get the time.

I have a complaint about Inktip too. I joined up as a member. Fine. Then I start getting their newsletter email, frequently I might add. So I clicked the option to unsubscribe from the email newsletter. Then I go to login and my login username and email has vanished from their system. I contact inktip and discover that once you opt out of their email newsletter you are also removed as a login user. What the f*&k? Are you kidding inktip? I have never heard of such a think on a website. Why should I be forced to receive adware newsletter emails just to login as a member? That is absurd, unheard of on any other website that I know of.

pmark - cool man, good to hear you're taking things into your own hands.

randall - feel your pain. i hate when websites pull sh*t like that.

I'm not a member but I hear it's a decent service. Supposedly they do a good job of screening out quack producers so your work is reasonably safeguarded.

You are wrong and misinformed. I guarantee it. Do you have this email from Inktip? I bet you did something else in your login, because removing yourself from the newsletter does not remove your membership. You can still log in and continue to use their services without receiving their newsletter.

Inktip is a fabulous tool and as mentioned they've helped me sell quite a few scripts and have been a great resource for meetings as well. Keep in mind, this is a hub for small producers looking for low-budget scripts. That's it, don't expect more and you wont be disappointed. They've been around forever for a reason, their system works.
