I think I'm screwed

I had this happen to me and the only way I could get the file to open was disconnect my external drive then open the project file from my PC. Select ignore when it asks to find the missing files then once the project opened successfully, I reconnected my external drive and the files would then reconnect. I had to do this every time and every version on the file I tried to save carried the corrupted issue.

Vegas is the first NLE I've used, does this type of thing happen in other apps?

This is something I have to try for the hec of it, I've tried everything else, why not this...

As far as your question, I wouldn't know, I've never use any other NLE besides Vegas.

Hey LynchMob, I hope I'm not jinxing myself for posting this, but I was too excited about it working so I wanted to stay quiet, or else I think the bad luck gods might strike me.. so by posting this I hope it still works.

But to answer your question... YES!!!!! it works, it is so weird, I wonder why. I did exactly what you said, I unpluged my USB hardrives, then started my computer, opened the project and it tries to find the clips I clicked ignore missing clips then the project open with no Error code.

Then I pluged my USB hardrives back again, next thing you know all the clips started to appear(WOW) you should of seen how excited I was. But then, my excitement turned to worry when I found another bug, when I tried to scroll forward using the mouse real quick to view the entire project then the error occured again.

But I found a way to work around it. I just move the scrowl bar real slowly through the entire project and it works.

Thank goodness you came along with this solution, wow! who knew someone else had this problem. I'm going to try and finish the entire project this way, then decide what to do next once I start a new film.

Thanks to you and everyone in this thread who offered solutions. Hope someone with a similar problem finds this thread in the future... But this thing of unpluging and re-plugging the hard drives is so weird.. in a million years who knew this would fix the problem.

I have to ask you LynchMob, how did you figure this would work, what made you decide to try this? I assume you tried a bunch of things huh? And where are you now with this project? Did you complete it, did any other problems occured? Share your thoughts.

Nice! I have had problems with my laptop when I boot with my external plugged in... I am starting to think that this may be related to "weak" south bridges that can't handle accessing too many HDDs at once... I would have never thought about it, good going Lynch!!!

But if you figured out your mobo's PMS side effects then just work around it till you are ready to upgrade...

Good news man, glad to hear!!!

Glad it worked out for you. I found it by total accident. I was doing my first client shooting/editing when this happened to me. I freaked out becuase these people were taking a chance on me and now the project was hosed. I tried every combination possible (at least I thought) until tried to open the project on another PC and I thought the harddrive was plugged in, but it wasn't. I just deceided to ignore the missing files. It was like 2 in the morning and I needed to have the final cut done by the next day. I was so happy it worked.

I am working towards doing my own independent feature, but after this I'm not sure I want to edit in Vegas. I love the product, and the layout. It's really simple to use, but this wasa MAJOR issue. I saw a thread a while back asking if Vegas was OK to use for a feature. After this issue, I'm not sure. I just don't know a better alternative so I'm reasearching now and hoping to get it figured out. Good luck with the rest of your edit!

Wow! thanks for sharing... "by accident" that is crazy...

Which USB port on your system are you pluggin your Ext drive into?
I've had several issues (not just with drives, but other USB devices as well) where the USB port on the front of the system were VERY unreliable. If you haven't already, try plugging your drive into a USB port on the BACK of your system and see if it works any better.

Funny you mention this, but I use the USB ports on the front of my system. I'll try your idea and see if it works better, thanks.

i had the same problem. my VEG would start loading, get to 33% and then error out. I had been saving a new VEG file with every re-edit. I was able to open the second newest edit. By accident, I discovered that once it was open, if I closed it and then opened the newest edit, it worked.

The next day i came back to work and had the same problem. so i did the same thing. Open the most recent version of the project that doesn't have an error, close it, and then open the most recent one. really really weird but it worked.
