so i upgraded to fcs3 a few weeks ago and haven't had to use compressor in a bit. so i go to export an m2v and now when i try to submit the batch i can't. the cluster show's up as "None".

anyone care to chime in?

thanks!

I actually have a similar question. I recently upgraded to leopard on my iMac and on my FCS 2, the batch on compressor never seems to submit. I m trying to export a 90 minute video to MPEG-2 for a DVD. It worked once but the .m2v file makes finder, quicktime, FCP, etc... not respond. Can I get a step-by-step on how to get from a FCP sequence to a MPEG-2 file?

compressor sucks, i hate it.

you can just export a fcp quicktime and import that into dvdsp and dvdsp will convert it for you.

Andy, .m2v files usually make finder and quicktime (and more than likely, many other programs) freak out and go non-responsive - finder will figure it out if you give it a few min - so, its best if you just use the .m2v files with dvd programs.

And yes, compressor can tend to be a pain in the ass (and FCP isnt?) it is pretty easy to use and does compress things really well, just, you know - be patient.

Here's an example of how to get from an FCP sequence to a MPEG-2 file (ignore that all my files are missing, I just grabbed an old autosave):

Make sure your sequence is saved, rendered, and ready for an export. Then "Export Using Compressor"

Compressor will fire up (it might crash a few times if you're using a pirated FCS2). Then in the bottom left corner, under "settings", select the settings you want Compressor to use. Note of caution: if your sequence is even frames longer than the 60 min, 90 min, or 120 min DVD presets, your file will more than likely be too large for your dvd. So if your movie is 61min, either cut out a min or use the 90min preset.

Then drag your chosen setting up to the "Setting and Destinations Here" dropbox.

Where it says "Source", Ctrl-Click and save it wherever you like. Then when you have everything set and ready hit the "Submit" button. A drop-down menu will drop-down and from here you can save this process should Compressor decide to crash. Again, when everything is set, hit submit.

Compressor will now disappear and will begin to compress the audio, then the video. When you see this, you should be good to go.

If compressor does crash, it will automatically begin again and again until it is can do it w/o crashing (it seems to crash more often the closer you get to your deadline). When it finishes, you'll have a compressed file wherever you saved it.
