This can be a "I want to see I, Robot" thread, a "I hate I, Robot" thread, or a "I like "enter your favorite car here"" thread...

Re: I, Robot?

This is the Audi that the I, Robot car was based on, the 2003 Audi LeMans V10...

it won't come up :(

Re: I, Robot?

Ill take the RED and then sell it for a Humvee :D

I want to see this and think it will be a good fun popcorn film. There is one thing I do not like and that the ROBOTS look like CGI. I think CGI is overused and they do it cause they can. What happened to practical effects? Look at the Aliens in Camerons version; epicly real and then look at the Aliens in Finchers; CGI cartoons.

Am I going off topic :P I just cringe when I see the ROBOTS. But I do dig Will Smith.

Re: I, Robot?

I completely agree, (off topic or not :) )

I think CGI should be used and not be able to be seen. Now adays they don't even mind, yeah those robots look fake...and like push it on the audience. HERE TAKE THESE FAKE LOOKING ROBOTS! ::)
;D

Re: I, Robot?

(this can be a "Do you hate bad CGI character's (without getting into the Star Wars character) thread too) heh :)

Re: I, Robot?

Yeah you can flick me off but then Im running into you! :D Really I would prefer a soft top Jeep.

Seriously though. I think you summed it up "TAKE THESE FAKE LOOKING ROBOTS!"

When and Who is responsible for 'okay-ing' this CG Crap? If Im Producing (or Directing) IM like "No ****ing way. This looks like ass on a stick"

Re: I, Robot?

"ass on a stick"
LOL HAHA

Great! I can't wait to let that slip out in front of a customer..."What do you think of this 129 dollar camera?" "Well sir...I think it's ass on a stick...****...I'm fired" ;D

Re: I, Robot?

Every time I see the preview, I groan -- it looks Soooooo fake. Especially the car -- the fake robots crawling on the fake car, with Will Smith on the greenscreen trying to act like it matters...

Oh well, I've been wrong before. I thought "Freaky Friday" (Jamie Lee Curtis version) looked like a stupid trailer, but man, that is a delightful movie!

Re: I, Robot?

So here's a question, Would you rather have the real looking robots...the "practicals"...even though they don't move smooth and they're a little jerky?

Or would you rather have something real and get animatronics? down better...

WHAT?? wow...I sure would've never guessed...

Re: I, Robot?

I too heard good things about Freaky Friday.

I would prefer as REAL ROBOTS as can be. CG can be used to enhance.

Ass on a Stick is a great line.

Re: I, Robot?

Jamie Lee Curtis absolutely dominates in Freaky Friday. Her portrayal as being the teenager is flat-out delightful. That is now one of my favorite movies, and I never would have predicted it.

CGI/Animatronic/Real? Let's answer it like this: Star Wars: A New Hope, or Star Wars: The Phantom Menace? Give me a guy in a rubber alien suit over a computer-generated fake-alien any day. Or look at "The Day After Tomorrow" -- once those CG wolves showed up, it was all lost.

Hey, speaking of "The Day After Tomorrow" -- John, weren't you going to shoot your own version in your freezer or something?

Re: I, Robot?

LOL

Yes I was. And you are correct; when those wolves showed up I was was like "WTF is this?!". There is some bad decisions being made in the Wood.

Re: I, Robot?

I too would like to see "John Hudson's Freezer Two Days After Today...Tomorrow"...

just make sure there's no CGI Otter Pops...or CGI hot dogs...

(no CGI wolves, Aliens, robots, or backgrounds either) :P

Re: I, Robot?

I wasn't going to see it...

until I heared it was playing at the Cine Capri!

For those not in the region, I'm visiting my father in Arizona and there is a theater hear called the Cine Capri which is the largest screen in the state and the audio/visual quality is AMAZING! So anything playing there gets bumped up a few points while I'm here.

Here's my thought on CGI, stop making CGI characters! We've gotten to the point where if you wanna make a CGI car, usually you can't even tell the difference, but but the guy leaping onto that car will never believable.

Also, give this some thought, look at how much better technology is now, how great you can make CGI look. Yet ppl still lean over and say, look, thats not real. I think the big thing here isn't that CGI 'isnt there yet' I think its that the audience is well aware what is possible and what isn't.

there are some freeze frames of the Cave Troll in Fellowship that look absolutly amazing, but I know that it doesn't exist and there would be no way to create some kind of prop that moved like that on set.

Now imagine putting a cg toaster in the kitchen of the next comtemporary drama you see. I bet you $1,000,000 you'd never suspect a thing and it would look completely in place. Of coarse the question is now, why not just put a real toaster on the counter for a lot cheaper? Same goes for the cave troll, I know it can only be acomplished in CG, so I'm aware that it is indeed CG, but it can only be acomplished in CG.

There's no answer, just something i've become aware of. And this is no defense on bad and unfinished CG, Bad CG is Bad CG

LOL ;D

Re: I, Robot?

For some reason, I think I,Robot has a bit of Minority Report kind of feel to it. It looks interesting, I'll check it out.

Re: I, Robot?

Hudson, i think the aliens in alien 3 were puppets, that where comped over the plates. not bad cgi, bad compositing.

i think i robot looks like cg ass on cg sticks. horrible. that car chase/jumping thing has so many things wrong with it, i'm not even going to start in on them. to many. i think the robots are a horrible design. they should have gone with something more like the bjork robots from "all is full of love" those were some bitchin half cg robots.

check out this clip, an effects house in canada made this for spec. some really cool stuff. robots are cool...
