I rescued a sony

Some peole bring home stray animals, cat's, dog's etc. I bring home stray electronics, as was the case today. Someone placed an interesting box of colorful junk next to the dumpster that right away brought out the magpie in me. After sorting through some old vases and books on the royal familly and other assorted gibberish, I came across what looked like a vcr. Right next to the vcr was a remote and next to the remote was an expensive looking stepdown transformer. I grabbed them all plus some other stuff that I dropped on my way to the elevator. The vcr turned out to be a 220 volt sony vcd player and it works like a charm(good thing I grabbed the transformer ). So now I've got this abandoned device nestled in and tied in to all my other gear like it's been here forever, then it occurs to me....WTF do I really need this device for? I don't watch vcd's and if I have a mind to, all my systems will play them with ease. Maybe I should just stay away from the dumpster. I've still got a roll of carpet and an old polaroid camera rolling aroun in my trunk that I rescued months ago...Jeeeze.

Mino, I am ashamed of you... this is the capitalist west. Repeat after me... MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER,MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER, MORE IS BETTER.

Now, don't you feel better.

Thanks for reminding me I had to take a trip to the recycling center.

I dropped off some old pillows, a rack drawer without runners, and a sewing machine.

And picked up this:

No...it didn't come with the SteadyTracker & DVX, silly people. Just the jogging stroller.

But if I can't make that into a decent dolly, someone should come along and take my tools away.

Hey John, if you've never used that bolex, would you mind letting it go for say....free? I would take it off your hands.....! And as for the stray electronics, I do the same thing from time to time, only I usually take the things apart. Lots of antique hard drives, cd drives, vcr's and various ccd security cams have lost their lives at the hands of my tools...I *did* get a pretty sweet JVC camera from our school that uses tubes and still works, for fun I hooked it into the DVX and recorded through it onto mini-dv and then played around with it in my NLE.

If anyone ever comes across old AV equipment or other technology related items, there is a museum in Arizona that is looking for things. They even want manuals, brochures, and data sheets.

I spoke to the curator/ director the other day and I'm in the process of unloading a couple of old 3 tube cams on them.

Videoguy1, thanks for this resource. I am developing a project where I wanted to use antiquated electronics as part of the visual design and have been going blind with google searches... they look like the the production design resource I have been looking for...

many thanks.

BTW is there a videoguy2?

see ya

No problem, glad to pass on the resources. There is a plain old Videoguy and interestingly a Videoguy7 but no registered Videoguy2. I do have a son but it's too early to tell whether he will be a Videoguy.
