I quit

Today was the day...i went to my coach and told him in person that i wanna quit football.

I quit becuase i didnt really like it that much anymore...The coaches would lie to us about certain things.

Now i have way more time on my hands...no more 6 day practices that last 7 hours each wit no breaks.
I now have more time to think about/do more important things...school...job...money...making movies.

The reason i post on here...is becuase i know a few of you know that I play...and i figured id jus say it on a post rather than PM.

I wrestled and played water polo all 4 years of high school, and although I loved both sports, they take an immense amount of time and energy. Senior year was insane trying to play sports, apply for college, and hold down a job. It was stressful for sure, and there were times that I wanted to quit. You really learn what your dedication is to. I am glad it was only the first half of the year though, because if it wasn't I probably would have quite because I wouldn't have been able to get the stuff that really needed to be done, done.

My Father discouraged me from playing football. (Not that I would have, anyway) He didn't want my knees to be like his knees when I got older.

:)

Dammit, DBoz! I had a feeling this was going to happen. A few months ago you were often referencing your practices, etc. in your posts. Then, suddenly, it all stopped and I grew suspicious that this day would come.

Hey, you're young and have your whole life ahead of you. You can do whatever you want to do. Just remember this: Assuming you have a good coach... The lessons and memories of your football days will last the rest of your life. It's like boot camp without joining the military. Real respect is taught and demanded. Not that phony street cred respect BS where people demand respect 'cuz they're a "G". I mean the real thing. That's what this country needs from one another more than anything. [cue Aretha]

I'm making a documentary about a high school football team that won state championships way back in 1959, 1960 & 1962. The interviews I've collected all have the same recurring themes of respect, loyalty, and love for each other and their coach. They are all very thankful for the lessons they learned early in life.

With that said... have fun with your time, but use it wisely.

I quit playing football at an early age to concentrate more on martial arts. I don't regret it for a second. Make sure that you put your newly-free energy into something you truly love and you won't have any regrets either.

Thanks guys.

I quit becuase i was fed up with the way they ran things there...they used to lie to us all the time...it was gettin so annoying....my first year was the best and most fun...i learned a great deal of discipline and respect for people on the field. But now since we have a new coach...its wayy different.

With my new free time now...im gonna get a better job than Subway...and start concentrating on more things i like to do...which is make movies. A few friends and I are forming a production company pretty soon...so we plan on making shorts and full length movies.
I had an idea for a football short...but...I think if i show my face around the bubble (the main room where the coaches and locker rooms are)..ill get yelled at or something...looks like ill have to wait out a little while if i want to do that.

But in anyways...my goal now is to just finish school...lift weights...have fun...and be the next Speilberg.

Man,
I've having a nostalgia trip from your post, blck. I, too, played football in high school and worked at Subway! You shouldn't regret quitting for one second if that's what you really want to do. I was sick of f-ball after my junior year, but didn't have the balls to quit. I was fairly good (not great by ANY stretch) and a starter every year so I stupidly felt like my coaches would be disappointed in me for quitting. I, too, wanted more time to pursue creative endeavors (music at that time). So, good choice putting your energy into film! You can make films the rest of your life, but it's unlikely you'd ever play football past hs.

All football left me with was a pin in my shoulder, bad knees, and a sometimes rickety back. Besides, the finest chicks dig arty types, not jocks!

Damn, I don't even know if Subway was around when I was in high school, and about the only thing i could have done for the great football team my HS had was be a tackling dummy.

I think it's hard at times to know what path to take. I admire your courage. Some people make a habit of quitting things, often for the wrong reasons (people like me), but for others, quitting is tougher than staying, even if it's the right thing to do.

Now go make movies

I quit playing soccer in high school when it got super competitive and stopped being fun. I played occasional pickup games in college but they were rare. I started playing again a couple years ago in an adult recreational league. It’s great fun and there are actually a lot of really good players who joined the rec league for the same reasons. We play hard and want to win but no one is slide-tackling anyone from behind or playing dirty (which would happen all the time in competitive play). They reshuffle the teams every season so you meet new people and make new friends every few months. I’m a pretty average player anyway, so I wasn’t getting a lot of playing time (way) back in high school. And when my team last season won the league, we got beer mugs as our reward. That beats a stupid trophy any day.

So if quitting is right for you, that’s cool. You can always go back to it at a different level and you might find you like it better at that point. It’s not like I was Ronaldhino, preparing for a career with FC Barcelona.

Cheers,

Josh

I'm more of a frisbee/walking/dancing type of guy...

never was really into playing a sweaty game of catch with "the guys", slapping each other's asses in the lockerroom, and finishing it off with a nice steamy, hot group shower.

But that's just me.

And that's why I'm a skinny mofo

Well...I never slapped anyone/ be slapped in the ass...and definitly not shower in groups....i always would wear old shorts and shirt and shower at home..cuz the showers there are like nasty as all hell....monte you crazy mofo....
