Today while cleaning my lens, it became clear that there is a speck inside the camera on the lens. I have no idea how it got there. It's a nice small white speck. And it's driving me nuts. Is there anything I can do? Is it easy to open the camera to clean it? Will my warranty cover it?

Grr.....im convinced it accounts for the lens flares i had yesterday shooting in the sun. you're probably right. this will just be hard with my OCD tendencies about a clean lens!

Well you might be right about that, shooting into the light would be one situation where it could affect your picture :( Call those flares artistic and raise your rates!

Consider getting a UV filter for your lens. I'm EXTREMELY particular about the cleanliness of my camcorder's lens. So when I upgraded from the DVX to the HMC, the first thing I did was put a lens protector over the lens as soon as I got it out of the box.

I have a UV filter! That's the annoying part. This speck gets in the way of shots with sunlight. Today i had a shot I liked and had to keep moving until the bit of glare was gone. This is so frustrating, and the worst part is, I won't have a chance to give up the camera for a month until the end of March. I just hope the warranty covers this. It's super frustrating.

I've had similar issues with almost all the camcorders I've had. Because the zoom lens itself is not perfectly sealed, just the act of zooming in and out can create a slight vacuum, pulling in a stray bit of dust to gather between glass elements. But you're right, it's annoying, and something a UV lens will do nothing to stop.
