You always had to hold a gun to my head to make me use it. Too slow, crash prone and complex. But I have used it from v1. Because I am curious and for compatibility reasons.
My main editing program is M100 it is fast and lean no rendering at all, but it has a few problems as well, pretty weak CC is the biggest problem, I use Color for serious grading XML back and forth from M100 to Color and AE even to FCP7. All this works well.
Now I am very intrigued by FCPX (FizPix), the new timeline seems very efficient once you learn how it works. It is fast and plays very close to real time with BG rendering, much better than FCP7 and this is only on a MBP 2.53mhz 4GB. So I see great promise from this new App.
As long as Apple and AJA/Matrox/BM etc. get their real video monitoring and external scopes working, and XML import/export gets fixed, and some type of collaborative network media system working. Then I may consider converting my 3 suites to FCPX, this is the first time I can say this.
But without the above fixes, there is 0% chance I will use it. Because without the "Pro" features it is useless for any serious broadcast production.
Maybe Apple is just thinking TV is outmoded and everything will now be WEB based, and they may be right. But it will take a decade or so to get there IMHO. And in a decade or so I may then buy into this type of production, but for my type of work this is not a current solution.
So to me this is very interesting. It may be great if they get the "Pro" features going, or a great new WEB video tool if they don't, and then Apple is just abandoning a pretty small part of their market, the broadcast production houses. We shall see.
