I need your help!!!

My church is building a new location and I have offered to help with video productions interviews etc.. So today i receive a call from the production director who is interested in setting up a Multi cam HD coverage projected on to 2 large screens as well as routed to a monitor upstairs... and possibly a webcast. They want me to put together an equipment list to achieve this... I was thinking about maybe 3 HPX 170's send out HD-sdi to a black magic card into a mac pro and using a software based video switcher like wirecast.. and feed that to the projectors and monitor as well as stream to the web.. Any input from someone who has done something like this would be very appreciated.

This is WAY more complicated than that in order to achieve good results.
do the projectors need independent capabilities on content?
are the projectors already installed?
how are they getting signal already?
is there video distribution already established for projectors?
intercom?
sync?
foldback?
there are a lot of variables here, on a traditional set-up like this you would have
HD-SDI, Sync, Intercom, fold-back and tally for each camera on a good tripod with remote control of lens on handles, as well as LCD.
all leading back to control room where these would plug in to a video switcher that can handle the amount of inputs as well as outputs (if you need different program for each projector)
you will probably need at least one or 2 computers providing Keying and matte material (which your mixer will have to accommodate)
at least 2 DVD players usually.
depending on which mixer you use you may need at least 2 LDC/Plasma displays to show inputs/ preview/ program.

that's just what I can think of from the top of my head, there is more that isn't coming to mind right away, but there IS more.

Are you guys looking to rent? buy?

The most important thing you can know is "The Budget", building a broadcast/ I-mag system is complicated , like building a house, when you know how much you have to spend then you know which neighborhood to look in.
there is no point in shopping for a mansion when you only have studio apartment money, as well don't sell yourself short looking at small apartments when you can afford a nice mansion.

BTW, I do make my living designing systems like these.

and like it was mentioned before, don't forget sound.

And in all seriousness, a 3 cam, 2 projector setup with streaming should be designed by an experienced person or consultant to achieve good results. spitting out a list of gear will not do you any good.
talk with your systems integrator who is doing the PA for the church , they probably have the experience to design a "Proper" video system.

Well, you could have it designed by an experienced person, or you could have it designed by a consultant... but it's not going to be both. :D

Seriously, though, I would agree with recordingwhiz - find an A/V integrator in your area and get them in on this ASAP. If you have somebody for sound already, they might be the right people or they might not (some companies specialize), but if they don't do it, they might know somebody who does.

Something I'd add to his list of variables is... who's going to be running these three cameras? Are you going to be able to find three operators for every service/wedding/etc.? The church video systems I've been involved with have all used PTZ cameras to take this out of the equation. Here's an article that a vendor we work with sent out recently as an example: http://www.vaddio.com/press-release_11_02_ims_how.php

Let me re-phrase... a experienced video consultant.

LOL

BTW. My company has offices in VA, were one of the largest AV integrators in the country, let me know if you would like for me to hook you up with a contact at our VA office.

We are extremely experienced in doing what you want to do.

Wow Thanks guys! I will be the "Video Systems integrator" overseeing the project and I am in the initial phase of research. As I said we are building a new sanctuary as we speak... Thank you for all your info! I will be meeting with local churches and check out their systems then hire people to set it up from their recommendations.. Thanks again!

well... I highly recommend you and the church figure out exactly how much they are seriously wanting to spend , then figure out what their expectations are.

I am never surprised at how the church freaks out when they find out that in order to have good image on a 20' screen the projector necessary is about $40K and lens is about $3K. not to mention the screen itself.

or that you cannot transmit 1080 more than 170' thru baluns and have to run fiber with $2k worth of converters.

IF you are the integrator , find an experienced integrator and take them to lunch for a month before you buy anything. there are TONS of little gotchas, and no one that holds that knowledge will or should give it away for free.

but seriously figure out your budget then fit a system to that price. THAT IS THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE.

are you rigging the projectors? are you a certified rigger? church's insurance my deny claims because of that. not to mention all rigging point over any part of public's heads MUST be engineered by a licensed structural engineer, do you have those resources?

Do you know NEC? your wiring may cause the building NOT to pass inspection therefore not getting a certificate of occupancy, if you dont follow NEC standards.

just some food for thought.

I wish you all the luck in the world tho.

Wish you luck.

no offense but if you knew what you were going to do exactly why did you pose the question to the forum?

None Taken. For the record I found that after i posted here. No offense to you but you come across very poorly and condescending.
