I need your help with funding advice...please

So I have a short film I want to make.

But I need funding, not a lot, but more then I have to spend myself.

My family is tapped out.

Not to mention I am 18, and some people, regardless of how professional I act and seem, are hesitant to trust teens with money.

And I have gotten so much advice about what to tell investors about making a feature that will have probability of distribution and chance of making money on the back end.

I need advice on how to find several people who wouldn't mind dropping a hundred bucks on my short, and want to get their name on a film, that will in fact be on the festival circuit.

hope you can help.

please e-mail me: arhartman@gmail.com with any help, advice, or inquiries on the aforementioned short project.

cheers,
Austin R. Hartman

Find some rich people who don't think a few hundred bucks is anything to lose. There are a lot of these people around. Look at the neighborhoods where you live where there are very rich homes. (get invited to some parties, or crash them.)...With a little convincing, they'd probably be glad to "invest" in your project. This is a legitimate endeavor. They're called "patrons of the arts". Remember, the whole world turns on human relations. Take advantage of it.

So, just figure out how to meet some people who manufacture coat hangars or run plumbing companies, something like that. They often have lots of money to spare and want to do something else with it besides buying and swimming pools and expensive, high-powered cars (you know, the ones with big wheels and black windows that go whirrrr when they accellerate away from, showing that you are nothing and they are king). Investing in your project makes them feel like they've done something with their empty lives after all.

These people are called "Executive Producers". They have no creative talent but lots of money, and they somehow consider it very valuable to see their name on a screen as such, and will even tell their friends that it was "their movie"...

And who knows, maybe you're the next Steven Spielberg...believe in yourself and that belief will project itself to them too. Approach them with the attitude that you can be expansive and conquer anything, you can embrace the whole world, and that you're unstoppable. Don't let anything get in your way. You can only win with this kind of attitude.

this is most likely the best response I have ever seen to any post. You're right, their lives are empty and their wallets full.

thanks for the awesome advice.

cheers.

Yes, well, I'm a little jaded, I see, after re-reading my reply to you, but still, there are a lot wealthy people around. No doubt their lives are full according to their needs, so why should I complain! Except when I'm paying 20x what something actually costs to produce, anyway.

And, I deal almost exclusively with the very rich all the time and mostly they are very nice people. For the most part, you have to be good at human relations to get to the top in your occupation. So apply a little of their same technique (charm) to them and get what you need to produce your movie.

And hey, it's a free country! (currently) Let them get rich! But you can add a little more excitement to their lives by adding in some art!

And on second thought, most of the people with the big-wheeled, black windowed, off-the-shelf muscle cars I see are actually foreigners from former USSR countries rushing around slurping up the American Dream, at least around Hollywood...they look rich but I don't really know that they are.

Yes but of course. I just grew up in a very rich suburban place which I now spit upon. Why? only because the people there are disgusting.
But enough of that. I will take your advice and push on.
