hi guys,

We've just finished editing a 1 minute short film (terror film). I would like to get some of your opinions mainly on the look. Keep in mind that this was done in one night...one long night.....with available light and the light that the GPS (also known as iPhone) provided. We also used an strange contraption to give more more power to the nice full moon that we had (using a cfl light and a car inverter).
its in glorious youtube 1080 (full of artifacts...).... it also has captions in English for the short dialog.

here you have two photos of the c-stand acting as a boom...

I'm the one in orange.

Thanks! I would love to make it a bit longer and add some interesting points, but this short was made for a terror short film contest and the limit was 1 minute.....

I had problems seeing the film. Keep in mind Youtube does it's own compression, and for some reason blacks and dark colors get almost a stop or two darker when put on youtube. From what I could see it was okay. But it was just so dark it was hard to really think about anything else.

Also the little joke has been done many times before. I've seen a few student films that think it's clever to have a horror film about a creepy man following someone or hiding in the shadows, to only be the milkman, or some funny relative, or someone that's the complete opposite of that. So I didn't really laugh when the guy offered this guy some bread (is that what happened?).

The ending was a bit weird. The shot of him 'crashing' wasn't all to convincing. There should have been some sort of swerving of the car to really jar you, though the shake was good. Then the last shot looked really fake. What was it? Was it a photo? Or a drawing?

Anyways good job, I know things can be difficult on fast shoots like that.

Thanks Jon! your comments are really appreciated. Fair enough, we knew that the joke wasn't original hahaha but as we didn't have enough time to think of something more elaborate nor the time to develop it in 1 minute we decided to go for it. Hopefully next time we'll have more time to develop a quasi original idea (damn is hard coming up with something original when nearly all has been treated....hahaha).
And I'm with you, the youtube compression added the scary compression artifacts (that are actually scarier than the film itself...) that depending on the setup of your the monitor that viewers have can really disturb the viewing. But as I had already submitted the URL I couldn't change anything. Try watching it in 1080. maybe that helps.
The ending is mainly a base shoot of my car against the colum. then using after effects and some photoshop I modified the image until it looked a bit like an accident. This is one of the scenes that the compression really screwed.....but anyways, it was a fun shoot hahaha running with a car with a china ball sticking out from the car hahaha people in my town don't usually see things like that, you can imagine their expression....

thank you Jon for leaving your comments.
