I need to vent. You all are my outlet.

So we're doing a shoot today. It's very critical to the schedule. We released a teaser and we already have people wanting to buy the dvd (people we don't even know well are wanting to buy this based on a teaser that shows virtually nothing about the story...seems like a good start).

Well, his parents hear about the small amount of beginners luck we're having, and they decide to piss us off. They see we need a room. They rush into the room and turn on a movie and sit right where are shot is (they know we have a deadline...our main actor will be gone for a month soon). Their son asks them to "please let us finish the shot. We need the room for less than 5 minutes." They say "We don't care." He said "Well everyone has to leave in 20 minutes" so they said "ok well wait."20 minutes later, we have to go. As we walk out the door they turn off the movie and say "you guys can have the room now" and laugh.

No wonder all their kids went kind of nuts. 1 is a major drug addict. Another is constantly in and out of the counseling office and psyche wards (he tells me he wants to talk to his parents about his problems...He told me this himself, but when he tries, they tell him that he needs a counselor instead...and put him in a psyche ward...Yes, a psyche ward...in order to have him checked out). Their middle son hates being around other people. He flips out (makes really weird hand motions and facial expressions...sometimes grunts when he's talked to...He's almost normal when he knows you well). It's no wonder since he gets screeched at every time he's around his mom.

Screw the movie you're making now. Make a documentary about this crazy family. Watch "Crumb" for inspiration.

Let's get John Hudson, Coffee, and a few other tuff DVXusers together. Those parents need a DVXuser wake-up call.

Seriously, what you described is very sad. Just continue being friends with the children. You can help them a lot.

You need a license to drive a $300 1989 Toyota Corolla, but any moron can become a parent. What you describe is cruelty at best and maybe borderline abuse. I wouldn't be surprised if there's outright abuse considering the kid's problems.

Good points, Barry and PK. You guys are obviously a lot more sensitive than what my callous response implies.

I didn't think it was callous at all. A lot of great art comes out of pain and I think it's a really healthy outlet. A way to express yourself and your feelings with total freedom. Good therapy, I think.

Ah, well...Today was better. We were able to shoot whatever we wanted, and they stayed out of our way (for the first time...usually we'd check what they are doing and plan around them). Still doesn't change the family situation though...Hopefully this animated series based on the family turns out well (has to be animated because I doubt the parents would want to take part in it. Normally I'd feel like I'm exploiting their problems, but the 3 brothers like the idea a lot. I'm thinking of ways to incorporate the DVX in it....Right now I'm watching a lot of experiments people have done with a rotoscope to get ideas of how I'd like the style to be)

I'll post the teaser for the feature we've been working on for the past couple months on this board sometime withing the next 3 weeks. Full trailer is also almost complete, so look out.
