I need to get out of this hellhole

Bag of Douche
I personally love the heat, the summer - spending time outside in 100+ degree weather (it gives me an almost indian like high), but what I hate HATE HATE HATE is freezing cold weather, just typing this out just now made me piss my pants.

Quotes:
The list for coldest places puts International Falls, Minn., at the top with a yearly average temperature of 36.4 degrees — much warmer than Barrow. All 10 places on this list except for Caribou, Maine, and Alamosa, Colo., are in Minnesota.

----

Without an ocean's natural temperature control, Minnesota air temperatures can reach extremes of hot and cold.

In the summer we get stuff like:

"temperatures over the 100-degree mark...he noted a temperature of 114 F..."

in the winter:

The temperature had dropped to a bone-chilling 60 degrees below zero.
---
We also get blizzards:

The weather was mild in the morning before the blizzard. It was a holiday so many people were outside, away from the safety of their homes. Suddenly temperatures dropped, and rain quickly turned into snow. Many duck hunters and other people were stranded outdoors in below-freezing temperatures. Forty-nine people died in the storm.

In closing: People often ask me - "Monte, when is the best time to come to Minnesota?"

NEVER! NEVER NEVER NEVER! We have one of the highest rape rates in the country (just behind New York) one of our larger cities is nicknamed Murderapolis - and it never fails to live up to it's name. We have mosquitos, which leads to tons of west nile virus. The housing costs are insane out here for what you get - shitty weather and shitty people - 300k+ fora house in the burbs.

Lots of people say, "Well atleast you don't live in the South! They're rednecks down there!"

Wrong. Atleast down there I can sleep with my sister/cousins and not feel like an outcast. I can carry around a gun and say I'm going deer hunting/going to a local NASCAR event. They've got it made down there, plus the weather ain't all that bad neither...

In closing - Don't ***** about the hot weather, I live in Minnesota, I have and always have had it worse. I will continue to have it worse in every possible way. If you disagree with me you are wrong.

**** this ****. Time to go to good ole Santa Monica...

Well if you can stand the constant grey skies, Seattle is a great place to live. Never too hot, never too cold, beaches all around and the mountains are 30 minutes away. Seems like 80 percent of our imports are from the midwest. I know many people from IL, WI, MN, living here. Problem is this:

It just more and more expensive to live in this crazy town. If there were anywhere else I would be willing to live I would sell my tiny condo and use the capital gain on it to buy a MANSION in just about any other city.

Any yeah we are a pretty small city for production work. Vancouver on the other hand....

Cheers

I admit I have never heard of anyone actually moving to MN. I've met people from there; but not people going there.

Gotta have an Ocean.

Monte -- move. Everyone else is doing it. Pack up, load the truck, and head out for Bixby, like Earl and Val from Tremors...

Dang, Monte... I don't know if I should laugh or cry(?). :|

OK... I've thought it over and I've decided to laugh. :)

Listen to Barry (heck, listen to yourself...) and MOVE! Say goodbye to your girlfriend's ugly toes and never look back. ;) :) :) :)

This is one of those "you only live once" and/or "you're not getting any younger" tests. Your environment controls everything from mood to your love live to your overall outlook. Move brother and don't look back.

I'm from and live in the south and I hate NASCAR, I've never been hunting and I've never touched a relative. Peoples perceptions about people from north, south, east, west, whatever are generally dead wrong.

Good luck

I like Portland. The weather is never really too hot or too cold. I mean, people here were freaking out when it got down to 15 degrees one winter. The highest summer temps are a little over 100 and only for a day or two. There is also a pretty good group of film makers here. Not to mention we don't have sales tax.

I'm moving back to Minneapolis in 2 weeks.

Thanks for getting my hopes up. Sigh.

Oh well, I guarantee its better than Milwaukee.

I need to find a place that has a high of 75 degrees F in the summer. That sounds nice and comfortable to me. Suggestions?

300k+ fora house in the burbs.

Sadly, that seems about normal to me. Every place I have lived for the past 16 years has been like that :(. Seems to be a universal trend.

Sounds like a hell hole! I have an uncle who lives on the upper peninsula of Michigan and those guys get TONS of snow. Having an ocean or lake nearby isn't always a plus: these guys get a lot of "Lake Effect Snow" and I mean A LOT.

Brian - What up? Are you starting over as a new member here? Are you back from Indianapolis? Did you sprout a middle initial whilst away? Inquiring minds wanna know. ;)

I have lived in the Midwest pretty much my entire life, the same with my wife, we HATE the cold. HATE THE COLD. And the humid summers suck. That's about it...I am applying at places all around the US, hoping to get the crap out of here.

I feel ya.

Dude- leave.
I grew up on the Iron Range of Northern Minnesota. Yes- I know all about 40 degree BELOW zero (wind chill not factored in). Summers weren't ever all that bad. Mosquitos- yikes I forgot those damned things. Swarms of em. Loooonnnnggg , cold, dark, grey-skied winters.

My wife and I moved to Atlanta, and I love it down here. Summers are hot and sticky.
But the warm lasts through November (used to get snow on Halloween!). Winters are mellow. Atlanta--or any place for that matter-- isn't without it's own problems.Smog, traffic from hell, idiot drivers, need better education for our kids, etc.. But my employment opportunities improved drastically when I moved.

I'd love to live in California. I know I could get work in the film industry no problem.
My wife hates it out there though, and alas- it won't happen.

Any change is scary, but anything worth doing is never easy as well.
Do it- move.

Come to San Diego! Our weather is P E R F E C T in everyway. Year round shorts and sandles. Tan women. Progressive lifestyle. Trendy setting in many areas. Employment opportunities galore....

Oh yea; House in the Burbs? $540,000 (This is for the lower middle class)
