I need to do some remote focusing...

I need to do some remote focusing. What's a good starter kit for the DVX?
What exactly do I need to do this? How does it work?

Remote zoom, same thing but for zooming? Can you get a 2 - in - 1 in remote?

I'm realizing how hard it is to hold the DVX and try to focus without shaking it. I'm going to have to upgrade somehow.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to any advice.

Do you have a DVX100B? If so, you can get a Foxi (www.16x9inc.com, about $450 or so) or Varizoom remote focus unit (www.bhphoto.com, about $250-ish). If you don't have a 100B, you're not going to be doing remote focusing.

The varizoom is a remote focus & iris and zoom & start-stop unit all-in-one, the Foxi is focus & iris only; for zoom you'd need to get their Zoe zoom controller.

How is it difficult? Personally I've never had any problems with it. Index on the focus wheel, thumb on the zoom wheel, I call the one A and the other C.

I sound like an ass. In all seriousness, I've never had that problem on any DVX I've ever used. The focus wheel always operates quite smoothly. You might want to have your camera checked in case it needs adjustment.

Failing that you might want to check out this: http://www.kesslercrane.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=40 or this: http://www.kesslercrane.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=30

Thing is the one only lists the DVX100 and the other doesn't list any Panasonic cameras at all, so you might want to shoot off an e-mail to the Kessler guys asking for clarification...seems like there's a chance one of those products would work for you. Their crane seems to be the crane of choice on this forum--hopefully the quality attested to in the article and posts extends to these remotes. Good luck.

He's looking for remote focusing which Barry has already replied is not an option for the 100(a). The Kesslercrane remote says "Zoom" if you look closely they do not include "focus" because they know it is not an option.. :)

It's not that difficult to use the focusing, no, but when your shooting handheld style little things like that sometimes show up on camera. It's smoother with remote focusing. Thanks for all the suggestions and information. Looks like I'll need a B one day.

My bad I guess. The II model specifically said zoom and focus though...might wanna shoot 'em an e-mail, it's possible they could work something out for you.
