I figure if you work in FCP you may know Soundtrack...so here's the problem this Soundtrack newbie is dealing with--
I am trying to consistently roundtrip from Final Cut Pro 7 to Soundtrack Pro 3.
For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get beyond the opening import of a (Sent).stmp file with two tracks of audio so that the editor opens up with ALL of the clips on Channel 1 or Channel 2 selected as a one group or timeline to work on.
I have my green timelines showing the divisions between clips. I want to simply do things like Normalize Channel 1, then Normalize Channel 2 separately, run the standard pops/clicks analyze and Fix, etc. I managed yesterday to somehow accomplish this and roundtrip back and find the new project bin with the .aif files, etc.
But now working today on another timeline from FCP I cannot simply select a channel, see it open up in the editor and see the whole timeline waveform highlighted to start with. It always opens with one of the clips highlighted for action.
I have tried setting an In and Out point before I open the Editor, I have tried Select Forward from the first clip, I have tried make Multitake Clip but there is no way intuitively (with my intuition) to simply click on Channel 1 and make the whole multi-clip sequence open up for editing below with no specific clip in that Channel timeline preferred over another one.
What happens is that the Editor always opens up a Tab named after ONE audio/video clip rather than the whole project name sent from FCP.
When I cobble together effects applied in the Editor at the End I keep getting on playback not the project timeline, but other audio parts of one of the clips dragged in from the Master Bin where the Final Cut project started.
Working on the project Sent file does not by default restrict itself to just the parts of the clips in the timeline. It likes to go work on the master version of the clip, adding in the parts of the master clips that have already been trimmed away.
I have looked at a number of online tutorials, including Larry Jordan's, and they don't demonstrate the SELECTION process that keeps the Soundtrack Pro project strictly confined to the edited timeline in Final Cut Pro.
I bring the video over and I can play the project in Soundtrack Pro and it plays exactly the tracks I intended to send from Final Cut, but it is when I want to now EDIT them that I cannot get Soundtrack Pro to focus on the tracks at hand in Channel 1 or 2.
I hope I have clearly explained my dilemma....there must be an easy answer!
