This is what everyone saw.

It got LOTS of hoots and yells. Showed it to about 750 plus standers. I got home on Tuesday and put another few hours on it. Got the changes Wednesday and spent a few hours cleaning up and burning onto DVD for backup incase my DSR11 wouldn't hook to the projector.

It worked.

Of course I get these assignments because I can generally produce something fairly quickly... and most of my audience doesn't know an AE 5 hour text job from a LiveType template.

BUT - this one was even worse then normal. Here's the deal - Wednesday afternoon: Mike - can you do a pro-bono thing for us? (Sure.) Ok - I don't have any video, but I've got three CDs of pictures. The Wing has done some amazing stuff over the last few years and the Commander wants to give a rah rah speech to the troops. --Here's your mission if you choose to accept it:) Here's what we need. I need to get everyone excited about the accomplishments we made and the things we've done. I also need you to use this tune... (You mean you want me to break the law?) What? Oh -- haha... yeah - can you do it by the 21st? (you mean by the 19th, because every O-6 on this base will want to see it and make sure their face... I mean their troops' faces are on it). Yeah - that's the deal.

So -- I accepted and dug up stuff I shot, stuff that was shot for me, stuff that was shot for something else -- finally got to my edit suite by 3pm Thursday. It's now 4am and I'm due on a flight in two hours and won't be back until Tuesday.

So -- Please, take a look. I need some sexy something to juice it up. The ending isn't done and the song takes an emotional nose dive after where I stopped. I'll be adding more title work for other accomplishments too, but that's not the point.

With what I have, and only about 5 more hours plus compression time left on it...

(and yes, I see the spelling error.)

Any thoughts?

I've gotten the impression that the Government has special dispensation with copyrights and such...at least judging by the huge number of current hits that AFN uses in their non-commercial "commercial" spots.

Not to mention although lovely mandatory briefing videos they...um...invite us to, right?

There's probably a little paragraph hidden away at the bottom of the copyright law in tiny print.

that was a pretty cool presentation with the time frame you talk about. I, of course, have no meaningful input as to what you should do to "sex it up".
 
It is too late to help you, but, something like ten or twenty percent frame zooms with the beats. A cheap and simple trick to create something out of nothing. But with your time you did a very good job. I am sure they will be blown away with it.
 
The opening text was very cool. That will let them know they're about to witness some great stuff. The video shots were really nice and the music will definitely keep their attention and warm up the crowd. I must know, how many photos (edits) do you have at the end. I've NEVER seen so many cuts.

Great job!

If it's not too late, here are some of my humble comments. When listing the awards, it might be nice to have each one fly in separately so they don't blur then into one another. Also, I would do the cuts to the music more - almost like a music video. You did that towards the end, and it looks great.

Sexy in the military probably means blowing things up. You don't have much of that in a transport wing, but I think what you have is plenty hot.

I'll clean up some of the edits to hit to beats. I'm also thinking of adding some ghost trails to the opening plane jitters. PK -- don't know how many photos there were. I actually used 1/4 of them over again just to get me to the end of the musical segment. I just grabbed all the ones they gave me... 3 cds worth. Actually if you look at some I didn't even change their rotation.

I did think about changing the award titles for the Rodeo. After it rendered I realized I don't like the center point of the zooms nor the fact that they overlap. I'll readdress.

No crap! lol That was the ONLY way I could get it done with the time I had and them adding junk every time I'd render it out for preview.

I did use AE for the final 3d texts.

Cap'n, that was just tremendous. I live in a military town and I think your project would definitely make any group of hardworking men and women proud of their accomplishments. There is much to be proud of! Thanks for sharing....
