We're about to start packaging and selling our reality comedy feature, SP Live. I however wanted some opinions on our DVD cover artwork before we go into production on the packaging. What do you think?

I think there's specific qualities in each image. In the first image you have a synopsis, I would keep that, however it looks like the back, not the front. Am I confused? I would also keep that bottom fifth for the back as well.

I know this is a DVX forum and will be hanged for this, but I would drop the camera image, so that drops the second image for me personally. However, the redeaming quality of the second image is the focus, well done.

I like the four screen grabs used at the bottom of the third image, nice visual insight. I like the goofiness of you guys in the last (fourth) image, it's pretty funny and simple.

I don't like the tagline at all, 'How this start-up company makes money'. It's awkward and unless you know which word to emphasize your left with a strange interpretation.

Good luck, nice work!

Out of the bunch, I think #3 is the best. I don't like the font though. I think you need and sans serif font.

I would make the like "How THIS startup company makes money" about half the size and right aligned with "SP Live".

I would also leave out the tribute to Rodriguez. I know you love the guy, BMan, but it's out of place visually. :)

I would also remove the text on the left side of the image.

I would also make the quote at the bottom smaller.

That's just my opinion. :)

Hey, what happened with choice 4 in the poll? lol

What are your thoughts on this tagline?

"How we made THIS movie"

Cool, yeah, me too, and we've gone back and forth on titles/taglines. I think it's much better. I think ya'll will REALLY get a kick out of this film. It's been 3 years in the making, but I think it's worth it. Funny stuff, and right up the crowd here at DVXuser's alley!

Yeah, I have a thread for it in the USER FILMS section too.

Also, I modified FRONT 3 to reflect the new subtitle.

I'm stuck at "none of the above." The camera image might work if there were something funny about it (i.e., smoking, destroyed, slimed, mounted on a RC car chassis or something else unusual, irrelevant and/or irreverent.) The second image makes me feel like I'm being accosted by a consumer research pollster in the mall. Run away! Run away! The third ? well, there's a corollary to "sex sells" that applies to bobble-headed guys in plaid. Elements of all 3 might be something I'd look for a few seconds longer...which is what you need.

I like #3. also, I wouldn't go with the "inspired by RR" quote. takes away from your originality.

if you do what you did to #1 (lots of white space and clean design) to #3 it will be good. right now #1 looks like an ad for the DVX and #3 is too noisy. simplicity is key!

I assume you're targeting indy filmmaker types and small bussiness dreamer like many of us, cover/front three would make me buy. Simple as that. Also check out a film called "Dreamer" which is on sale at hungryflix.com.

P.S. Unless you're making a Clinton pun, check your spelling of "Hilarious" before going to press. If it's an actual quote of the misspelling, I'd still fix it rather than putting [sic] in there. I see Zach made the same point already, so nevermind.

to be honest they all say made by a non-designer (is that a word?) whose been asked to come up with something, & i don't mean that to be bitchy, just that you need it to show a bit more class aesthetically, i can't help thinking of a home made product when i see those designs & i'm presuming that you've got more to offer with your show than that. definitely drop the rodriguez thing & be more subtle with the font choice & placement, i think #3 could be good if you made all your characters fill the space & work the info in at the bottom somehow. i know you want to appeal to kids too but they appreciate eye catching visuals better than most of us. good luck with it, your project sounds like fun

I agree with all of that but I will take it one step further by saying they're all pretty much awful. I remember watching the first ten minutes of the film awhile back and all of your cover designs pretty much undermine the quality of what I saw. I'd go back to the drawing board and try to work on something that is a little more aesthetically consistent. My two cents but I thought I'd just be brutally honest with you.

Good luck.
