I just got an letus elite 35mm adapter and now I need some help choosing tree basic lens to use. I'm thinking on a nikon 50 1.4 ais , 28mm f2 or 20mm 2.8 and 85 1.4 or 1.8 all nikon and all AIS . Is this a good basic selection? I would really appreciated your help. Thank you! adrbap@gmail.com

your ok with the 50 and 20, for a third on the long side (and if you must only get 1 more) i would invest in a 80-200mm, that would offer the ideal scenario. -this is my personal experience.

Ideally it should be a f2.8 BUT if budget an weight is an issue then maybe a 105 f2.8

so a 20 a 50 and 105 would cover you best than an 80.

my 105 has macro so its a plus for those close up shots. - I don't use it anymore since i got the 80-200.

How about the 35mm 2.0 or the 28mm 2.0 both nikon ais.

If you get the 20mm then the 35 is not much use. Personally this lens is not much use if you have the 50 and 20.

If you want, you can get a sigma 20-40 zoom f2.8 which i have and finde very useful in 35 adapter work. This is my wide lens in projects using adapter.

When i shifted to 7D, i got the canon mount 11-16 tokina. Great lens but don't have aperture ring so you cant use in adapter work unless you buy the redrock accessory that allows you to electronically adjust aperture.

If you're sticking with Nikon "F" mount lenses, a kit that'd be decent on a budget would be:
-a Nikon 20/2.8, 24/2.8, or 28/2.8 for your wide end. Figure $150-350 here
-any Nikon 50/1.4 or 50/1.8 AFD or 50/1.8 Series "E" if you need to save $$. $100-200 for 50/1.4 or $40-100ish for various 50/1.8s.
-Vivitar/Samyang/Bower/Rokinon brand 85mm f/1.4. This is a great medium telephoto option for only $200ish used, $360 brand new
-Nikon 105/2.5 pre-AI, AI, or AIS. $100-300ish, depending on version and condition

That's a full kit for around $500-800 if you're smart about it... but why only Nikon AIS glass? Planning on using the lenses on an SLR for stills work?
