I NEED help FAST

I'm editing my student short film on the schools FCP HD computers and all I've done so far was capture and organize the clips in bins. I'm new to FCP so my teacher has been helping me so far. Each student is given 3 months to finsh editing their short film and my time is almost up! My teacher Isn't going to be in tomorrow to help me and I don't know what to do next. The captured clips are in the bins. I know I can't just drag the clips and drop them in the timeline, can I? Can someone please give me step by step instruction? Thanks

You'll need a special password to be able to access the bins, hopefully the teacher gave it to you.

Next you'll need to view each individual clip noting the timecode start and stop points for each edit. Then in order you'll type each in and out point into the "timecode chart", starting with the first clip you plan to use then to the next cut etc.

Don't even think of using any cross dissolves or fade outs, that involves keyframing each individual frame to get the result.

Actually, you may want to throw in the towel now!

Gee, Stabb, that's mean!

Mr. Cash, yes, you should just be able to drag clips from the bins to the timeline.

dragging into the timeline is fast and easy. If you have time go to borders and review the apple certified book (not the advanced one) to get a quick idea of how to work through the interface, buy it if you could afford it. But FCP is pretty simple to at least get a rough cut done without the book.

Yeah that wasn't even funny.

Thanks for the help.

oops looks like I did.
It was a serious post I thought FCP was different than vegas cuz vegas makes it so clear that they use windows standard drag and drop...

Man, you've been listening to the folks in the Vegas forum too much! FCP has a pretty shallow learning curve for basics. Just drag everything. Drag clips to the timeline. Drag their edges to trim them. Drag transitions onto the end/beginning of a clip, or onto the point (edit) where two clips join. Drag filters onto clips. Etc.

Stabb: NoCash is always very generous with the thumbing smileys... you can just ignore 'em!

sorry for being a dick, I thought I was playing along with your joke post, which turns out it isn't.

Final Cut is a pretty simple program, meaning you don't neccessarily need any knowledge to use it well.

All I do is double click each clip in the bin i want to look at. Press I for the in point I want then O for the out point, then drag the clip onto the timeline. You can also drag it over to the canvas which will give you inserting options, but I merely drag onto the timeline.

I use numerous hotkeys that seem to speed things up for myself.
press b - will give you cut tool.
press a - back to arrow tool
press t four times - this will give you a double arrow. If you wish to put a new clip inbetween other stuff, press tttt then click the clips to the right of where you want to put in a new clip, this will highlight everything to the right, then you move the rest of the movie over, put your new clip in, then pull the rest back.
Apple button+ - zoom in on the timeline.
Apple button - is zoom out on the timeline.
Arrow up and Arrow down moves to each start or end of clips on the timeline.
Arrow left and right moves frame by frame.
Option-Apple-W changes audio to waveforms when you need to do any audio editing.

Save Often(I had a power outage this evening, I lost 1/2 a hour worth of editing, and you can never get **** the same way you had it)

If the school computer has the internet you should be okay, you'll be able to come on here with problems, just don't add a wink smiley!

You're right the program is pretty self explanitory its just like any other editing program.
Is there a button where you can grab everything on the timeline and move it?

Thanks for all the help.
