I need help developing the structure of my film

I want the film to take place inside a room. I see the room as being divided into three parts: life, death and living-death. As of now, life equates light, death equates darkness, and I'm seeing living-death as either the shadows or grey. Within this framework I want to explore how one loses his or her life, metaphorically speaking. I see this being done through a tug-of-war between light and dark, where the battleground is the shadows. I guess that my main issue is how to demonstrate this. Also, how to materialize the struggle, or how it's actually occurring. Any suggestions? Thanks.

A soon as someone mentions living death, all that comes to mind is being forced to watch endless reruns of Gilligan's Island.

watch Ingmar Bergman, particularly Cries and Whispers, Persona, and Passion Of Anna.

That will be all you need to know about "light" and "darkness" and the stuff in between

three parts: life, death and living-death

These fit into a Classic 3 ACT structure.

In ACT I, Life: we meet the hero who believes he is alive and really living, but something changes and his life is thrown into turmoil.

ACT II, Living Death: He makes a goal and a plan to get back but time & time again he must take a new turn because of obsticles.

ACT III, Death: This is where the hero/main character meets the final battle and either is defeated or wins.

I would use this structure but have it turned around in meaning where we (the audience) & the hero find out in the end that what we believed was Life in ACT I was actual a state of Death (metaphorically) and in his struggle during ACT II he actually goes through changes that eventually give birth to his new self in ACT III. So the story is one in which the Hero awakens from his Death and through Struggle finds Life.

This is a classic Hero's Journey.

Not really what you are looking for, but google youtube for a short film called The Black Button and watch it, it might stimulate some ideas. One room short, human versus Death/Satan, struggle over ethics.
