I love this tripod combo!!!

I'm getting ready to buy a new tripod but still can not decide on which one. I was thinking of the Cartoni Focus with Miller VJ sticks, however, I have read previous post re the "Cup" issues. I still am not sure which head to get get and this issue with the Focus doesn't help. Did the Focus cup problems ever get resolved or do we need to pay an extra 100? I live in Los Angeles so picking one up in N.H. would not be a problem. Also, please let me know how you like the VJ sticks. I still can't decide between the Miller DV or the VJ. Also, how are you liking the Focus? Has the head given you any problems.

Thanks, Jimmy

I just got this combo a month ago. I love it. I did have to ship the cup to the US Cartoni dealer to exchange for a bigger one, it cost $25 (I think) + shipping. They said they just started shipping the head with the larger cup and that I got one that was on the shelf for a bit. If that is true all the heads by now probably have the right cup. Even if it is not true, I'd still go through that process again, great combo.

I'm having a problem with my focus head. It has to do with the tilt. It seems to have gotten "wobbly" . In other words, the friction doesn't kick in right away on the tilt. Very noticeable on long lens or delicate moves. I started noticing some oily substance between the cartoni plate and my chroiziel baseplate. Is it a fluid leakage problem?
Also, another problem, the rosette where the pan handle attaches is made of some plastic composite, it is bending more and more as time goes by. So all those delicate pans that one has to make every so often are not so delicate.
Anybody have these problems?

After reading this thread I decided to order the basic 1 stage Focus system, it gets here on 2/13.

I am not as concerned with how light or compact my legs are because in real life my legs are quite beefy and capable of hauling around an extra couple of pounds. What was important to me was the mid level spreader, which the least expensive (one stage) legs are designed with.

Being a newbie I am at the mercy of the advise I can scrounge from these forums, but it sounds like the Focus is the way to go. Thanks to the experianced people for posting your lessons learned.

My journey is just starting, and I am really looking forward to it...

Regards to all,

Bob
