i love my new video iPod

yeah.. the 30gb is half as fat as the old ones, so thin it kinda sits in the dock funny. the 60gb is about the same thickness as the old ones.

does it take anyone else a rediculously long time to export the ipod format out of quicktime?

oh yeah.. i dont know what the hell its trying to do, but for example to render out a music video it took almost 30 minutes.

i batch render everything in sorenson squeeze..pretty fast..just setup a render template and drop it on all the clips and click squeeze it.

I used Quicktime Pro to create a H264 but it took a long time and the size of the file was huge. Then I tried compressing using the iPod option and it doesn't let you change any of the settings. That file was also large.

Does anyone know if QT Pro can create a highly compressed file (ala sorenson, cleaner)?

Thanks.

The thing I've been wondering, is how does it look played back to a television? I remember they claimed you could do that, but with the source videos at only 320x240, how's the scaling? Its H264, which does a great job of scaling, but how's it look in application?

i played it on my 23" lcd monitor and it looked like bunk...havnt tried it on my tv.

alrite, how do you format video to put on it? i did some stuff out of quicktime but there's no audio, and i got another conversion program but it always says "audio not suported." what kind of audio does it take?

Yeah I bought one of these bad boys a couple weeks ago. One of the Black 30 gig jobs. This is one slick little gadget.

I got the 30 gig a couple weeks ago when it just came out.. and i gotta say its pretty sweet. I was at a production meeting last week and it was nice to be able to whip out a video and say " look at this demo " .. so yes mr. tax man.. that Ipod Video is for work, i promise.

I agree. I use it to show people my stuff all the time. This is a great tool for instantly being able to show somebody your work.

I have been messing around with playing the video on tv. It depends a lot on the compression used. But decent results can be achieved. So far it seems like the Mp4 stuff looks better than the h.264. But I'm still testing.

BTW here's a link to a tutorial to use your standard video out cable from your camcorder to link your iPod to your tv. Just in case you don't want to buy the apple accessory

And one last comment: Is it just me, or does playing video drain the iPod battery hella-fast?

Yeah I heard battery life for video is "up to two hours"

Per apple's site:

30GB: Up to 14 hours of music playback; up to 3 hours of slideshows with music; up to 2 hours of video playback
60GB: Up to 20 hours of music playback; up to 4 hours of slideshows with music; up to 3 hours of video playback

That sounds about right. I can barely get through a movie on a fully charged battery. Oh well. Still love the little beast.

Awesome link, pookie.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they are typing a curse word when they type out "pookie" now that the word censors are in place?

So are you dudes like staring at your IPOD watching videos on that little screen?

Why?

I've wondered the same thing ( i'm not a follower).

I think it has something to do with "compensating", just backwards.

to score chicks

"is that a movie on your ipod?"

"yeah. wanna see? we can share the headphones with the really short cord"
