i love it when a client fights you tooth and nail over $25

Frustrating, I know.

At least its $25, not $2500 or $25000. I can tell you from experience, it is probably better to let it go and live in peace than to continue to fight.

yeah, ya know, we have all just wasted $25.00 in time posting our b*tches here on DVXUSER. If they are b*tching about it before a gig, then you ain't gonna do the gig. If they are b*tching about it after the gig, then THEY ain't gonna get their footage, or the finished project (you got all the cards). If they are b*tching about it after the delivery of project, then you are SOL (You got no cards). From long experience of getting f**ked by clients, I don't deliver a single frame, until I have been paid. PERIOD.

the problem was basically that he was trying to negotiate a flat rate AFTER the fact. and his 'flat rate' was based solely on what he thought was fair and how long he thought each item should take. i took some money off, right off the bat just to be over with it, but he persisted.

a little context... this invoice was literally hundreds of dollars less than the previous one - and for remarkably similar work. a big reason it was cheaper was because all the time consuming groundwork had already been done (transferring his old content, compiling templates, etc). of course for the first invoice, he complained about the time i spent on this 'groundwork' and i promised him that this invoice would be cheaper. thats exactly how it turned out, and he still complained. not cheap enough i guess!

overall, i was just surprised at how much he was willing to sacrifice in terms of my morale considering how inconvenient a setback it would be for him to find a new guy. i mean, i single handedly deliver his product from start to finish...

anyway, its resolved. after knocking some money off at first, i managed to stand my ground. i insisted on doing so, not for the money, but as a matter of principle. at the very end though, he managed skim another $2.50 off the invoice make it a "round number." you get the idea...
