I lost my passion and got unmotivated ever since i had my first manic phase where i was all out of it... ever since i got "better" through meds and stuff [im off meds now] my passion for filmmaking has dropped... before this incident happened, i was VERY HIGHLY obsessive with filmmaking etc... now its all gone. Please help?

First heal.

Whatever is disturbing you has an effect on the creative process of the brain. You need to allow yourself a chance to explore new vistas, meet new people, get rejuvenated. The passion for filmmaking will emerge as you heal.

How do i go about doing that? Im fully healed [no more mania etc, im back to normal me] but without that burning passion for film anymore.

Assume you got the passion at the same time you joined DVXuser, May 2010, that's 15 months, longer than a lot of folks last at it.

Take a short time out of town, figure out what'll it take if you really want to restart.

Join a local camera/video club, trade your camera up for the latest rig and enter video contests .. maybe buy a new car or boat.

It worked for Charli, she's out in the freakin desert and look at that gorgeous smile :)

Cheers.

Don't mistake your mania for passion. Passion doesn't need to be at full burn all the time. It can smolder. And don't mistake lack of motivation for lack of interest. See if you can still get pleasure from filmmaking without it being an obsessive manic drive. If you've truly lost interest then look for something else you can find passion for. But again, I think you need to look back and think if that was truly passion, or just a byproduct of your mania.

The lack of passion for film is nothing compared to the loss of passion for living. As long as you have passion for the important things in life is what matters.

this is hilarious because i am going through the exact same thing.
i seem to be "shooting" alot but never find that drive to sit down and edit.
i think what gets me down is not being able to put my ideas into actions inside the softwares i use for editing.
that gets me despresed as hell!

i'm all energetic before shoot and during the shoot i just loose complete interest.

The only way to fix something is to get in and fix it. Standing back wont help. Get in there maybe try our DVXUser filmfest - scarefest to try and scare up some passion in yourself.

That is a good idea.

I had not filmed anything for a number of months: I was just too busy with other things to find time and all of my equipment was just sitting there gathering dust.

I entered a documentary competition on another site on a whim (you sign up, then they give you a theme and 3 weeks to source, shoot, edit and deliver it).

Once you are under pressure you really tend to work hard. I got the documentary finished under time, and found 3 other good stories while I was doing it for shooting later.
