Over the last few years the "theater experience" has come to mean; dirty theaters, people talking on cell phones, poor sound, dim projection, small screens, and high prices.
In the past 2 years, I have seen less than a dozen movies in the theater. We just rent everything now.
I do miss the old big screen experience, but I don't think it really exists the same way anymore.

I totally agree, we very rarely go out to the movies anymore. In the past twelve months I've seen exactly two movies in the theater, and I went reluctantly. In fact, I remember a news report about a guy in New York who loved movies and went to see one almost daily, but by the time he added up the price of tickets, parking, popcorn and soda, it was getting to be a $50 venture. He decided to spend that money on upgrading his own home theater equipment instead. He spent a few thousand on equipment and now gets everything on DVD. He sees many more movies and gets to keep them (plus, he gets all the DVD extras). Beats going to the theater and then buying the DVD later.
Here in Las Vegas, we have a fabulous library system. I browse the library's catalog online, pick out what movies I want to borrow, and they collect them from whatever branch they're at and deliver them to my local library branch down the street. I just walk in and go to the checkout desk and present my library card and they hand me my movies. I don't even have to go to the stacks!
Another plus to watching movies at home is the ability to stop them in the middle to go to the bathroom, answer the phone, get Pizza Rolls, etc., or to rewind to catch a piece of missed dialog or something.
The company I work for gives us four free movie passes each summer as a gift and I still have this year's and last year's before in a drawer. Good thing they don't expire, although I doubt I'll live long enough to use them. Maybe I should sell them on eBay.
I'm in no hurry to see anything since I know that eventually it's going to be on HBO. So, often I just wait.
I hate the theater experience now.
